“It is a great pleasure to be part of this network of amazing people at Bahiana and I feel honored because there are people who sing with me since the beginning of the choir and have fun participating. The project seeks to provide quality of life within the institution and very well contemplates the improvement in the daily lives of all who are part of this great network”, declares Coral Canta Maestro Bahiana, Carlos Veiga who is celebrating five years of existence and success.

The choir started its activities in October 2010 as an initiative of the Human Resources of the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública with the objective of promoting quality of life in the institution. In the beginning it was an activity restricted to employees only, today it is extended to students and the community in general (former employees, students' families, etc.). the sings Bahiana  today has 25 participants and has been performing several presentations throughout the year, both internally, at the institution's events, and external, in other programs, such as the anniversary of the CAAP of the Academic Unit Brotas and some meetings such as the Meeting of Choirs of the Federal Justice of Bahia.

“We have a very good interaction process, both with employees and with students and the community. I have seen the growth of some choristers, people who were extremely shy, such as Léo Cruz, general services assistant at Cabula. He was very shy with speech problems and, when he started in choir, he started to articulate the words better in a clear way, with a much better diction”, explains Luciana Fontes, Human Resources analyst at Bahiana.

Canta's Psychology professor and chorister Bahiana, Mônica Daltro, reports that she joined the choir since she assumed the coordination of the Psychology course, currently coordinated by Prof. Sylvia Barreto, and at that time she observed the conductor conducting and understood that she had learned something there.

“I noticed that I had a lot to learn from the conductor about what it was to be a manager, because the conductor teaches us to sing in a different way, groups that sing differently and make one song. I joined with this objective, however, I found out about joy, the possibility of breathing, forming groups and having enormous affection for those people who, many times, I didn't know neither their name nor what they were doing”, he concludes.
