“We always try to bring up to date themes not only related to the biomedicine area, but in general, to the health area. Due to the pink October, this year we opted for the topic of breast cancer diagnosis through imaging, taking advantage of the fact that we have professionals in the house with expertise in the subject”, explains the professor of the Biomedicine course, Sidney Carlos, coordinator of Science with Acarajé, whose 13th edition took place on October 29, at the Cabula Academic Unit Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública.

The program brought together professors and students of Biomedicine courses at Bahiana and other faculties with the aim of instructing them about breast cancer issues associated with bioimaging and advanced techniques in imaging methods. A lecture was given by the Bioimaging specialist at Bahiana, Prof. Thomas Pintagueira, who spoke about metastasis tracking through complex bioimaging techniques and another by Prof. gives Bahiana, Edson Marcos Ferreira, specialist in biomage and coordinator of the residency in Biomedicine in Imaging at Faculdade Maria Milza (FAMAM).

“It is interesting to address this issue, as bioimaging is an area of activity for biomedical practitioners that is in evidence in the course that, at the beginning, was only focused on clinical analysis”, says Rodrigo Brito, a 4th semester student of the Biomedicine course at Bahiana and member of PET Biomedicina.

According to Prof. Thomas Pitangueira, promoting events like this is essential for the formation of students, as they involve interesting questions related to the role of the biomedical professional, since, in Biomedicine, there is a diversity of activities for this professional. “We dealt with a specific topic involving the Pink October, the diagnosis of breast cancer and we were able to propose a differentiated approach within this theme, introducing the application of techniques and the introduction of the biomedical professional in this diagnosis process”, he explains.

“The themes were very pertinent, as we attend several disciplines related to bioimaging and seeking new information is very rich for our training process, both for the course and for the institution, which sometimes does not promote this type of lecture. We are always looking for market innovations for our area, as the differential is an important feature for biomedical practitioners”, says Dimily de Almeida, a 6th semester student of the Biomedicine course at Faculdade Maurício de Nassau.

According to Prof. Edson Marcos Ferreira, the objective of events like this is to bring the maximum amount of knowledge to the academic world, thus forming differentiated professionals. “Our duty as a teacher is always to motivate, we are enthusiastic and, therefore, we have a lot of love for what we do, we strongly believe that the area of Biomedicine is promising and has a very good acceptance regarding employability”, he concludes.
