“This training is part of an agreement we have with the practice fields, where we insert our students. The Hospital Evangélico da Bahia (HEB) is one of those fields used, which integrate nursing students in a welcoming environment with a lot of power for learning and our counterpart is always to support you in some actions, mainly teaching, training, sharing of knowledge, one of these invitations being to work on the issue of ethics", reported the professor of the Nursing course and supervisor of the fields of practice and internships at Bahiana, Rosicleide Freitas, who attended the 4th Training on the Code of Professional Ethics, held on October 28 at the Academic Unit Brotas da Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública.

The program brought together Nursing professors from the Bahiana, nurses and nursing technicians at the Hospital Evangélico da Bahia in order to raise awareness of technical responsibility and ethical posture in the work environment, encompassing dynamics and issues that normally interfere directly in professional ethics.

According to the undergraduate nursing professor at Bahiana, Mel Espinheira, the purpose of the dynamic is to bring to the reality of professionals what actually happens in the daily work environment. "The training we promote is a more playful, fluid way, it's not a boring technique of talking and people just watching, but those involved interact a lot and, therefore, we started the integration dynamic, making professionals leave the comfort zone and understand the process as a whole, in terms of interactivity. It's valid because they open their eyes to the work ethic issue, which is fundamental”, he explains.

The training allowed for a resumption, in practice, of the understanding of the code of ethics and changed the view of professionals who made many changes in their daily work. “It's the second meeting I've attended and this training allowed for a considerable change in our work routine. A year ago the hospital had a policy and today it has changed around 40% in the knowledge of our team. These trainings have been evolving, showing how we should proceed correctly and also in the treatment of patients, with considerable improvement in the labor field”, reports Eliomário Estrela Oliveira, nursing technician at HEB.

The communication advisor of the Regional Nursing Council of Bahia (COREN-BA), Cleide Soares, also participated in the training. She emphasizes that the program is a continuation of an event previously promoted by Coren-BA called “Dialogues and ethics” and, as it is a substantial program, this proposal was continued. “The importance of this training is to see that the work that the technical chamber has been doing is reflected and continued within the university”.

The program included playful activities, such as the mock jury on important issues in daily work, such as the issue of selfies on social networks that can cause serious harm to professionals, since nursing is a profession committed to health and quality of life of the person, family and community.

According to Simone Vieira, Nursing Manager at Hospital Evangélico da Bahia, the simulated jury aimed to raise awareness on the part of the entire work team, both for responsibility and for care practice. “We make it possible to read and search for articles in our code of ethics that highlight our rights and duties. I witnessed very high level discussions supported by the code, both in the defense and in the prosecution's part about the conducts put on the agenda”, he concluded.
