Tomorrow, October 7, the Center for Voiding Disorders in Children (CEDIMI) will receive a visit from Prof. Israel Franco, renowned pediatric urologist at New York Medical College and full member of the Internation Continence Children's Society. The coordinator of CEDIMI, Prof. Dr. Ubirajara Barroso, and the other members will make a presentation to the visitor about the activities of the center, from 15:1 pm, in room 1, XNUMXst floor of the Teaching-Care Outpatient Clinic of the BahianaOn Brotas.

The program will feature the presence of students and professors who are part of the CEDIMI team. The visit is part of a set of internationalization actions by the Bahiana and its objective is to attract research-oriented academic partnerships.

“We already knew each other from scientific publications and, later on, we got to know each other in person and bonded friendships when we met at conferences and shared tables and discussion panels. I'm organizing a congress at Sírio Libanês, in São Paulo, and I invited him to participate in this event. Previously, I invited him to visit CEDIMI, in Salvador, and he was very enthusiastic, readily accepting to come and visit us”, reports Dr. Ubirajara Barroso.

During the visit, care will be provided to patients, showing the therapeutic resources that the center offers. The program also includes the presentation of research developed by students who are part of CEDIMI.

On the same day, Prof. Israel Franco will give a free lecture, at 19 pm, at Hospital Aliança on perinatal urological diseases.

CEDIMI

CEDIMI is a national reference center and a pioneer in Bahia specializing in the treatment of urinary disorders in childhood. The place serves children who wet the bed at night (nocturnal enuresis) or who during the day do not “hold the urine” and even urinate on their clothes, or children with neurogenic bladder, offering them diagnosis and treatment. At the center, parents also receive guidance on how to deal with the problem. The center also serves children with major neuropathic problems, such as myelomeningocele.

In addition to urology, CEDIMI also counts on the work of psychologists and physiotherapists.

CEDIMI also carries out several scientific researches coordinated by Dr. Ubirajara Barroso, Dr. Maria Luiza Veiga and Dr. Ana Aparecida Martinelli Braga. Among the ongoing researches are the development of a new form of percutaneous neuromodulation of the bladder, something unprecedented in the literature, as well as a randomized study on a new device developed to treat enuresis ("bed-wetting"), patented by Dr .Ubirajara in Brazil and abroad. Among the findings of the studies developed at CEDIMI, there is the correlation between mothers and daughters with incontinence, which suggests family inheritance for this condition.

In addition, CEDIMI is developing two new patent processes relating to new technologies for the treatment of voiding disorders. In the field of psychology, studies are being carried out together with a university in Hamburg on the positive behavioral effects that can occur with neuromodulation for the treatment of incontinence.

According to Dr. Ubirajara Barroso, “CEDIMI is currently one of the centers that publish the most in the world on neurogenic and non-neurogenic bladder disorders, standing out for producing innovative techniques in the treatment of these disorders. We also have master's and doctoral students, as well as undergraduate students who carry out research and provide assistance to the center”.
