12th Fair of the Parish of Our Lady of Brotas

Last Saturday, the 26th, the neighborhood of Brotas hosted the 12th Parish Health Fair, an event organized by the Parish of Brotas together with the School Bahiana of Medicine and Public that brought together professors and students of Medicine, Biomedicine, Physiotherapy courses and technicians from the Teaching-Assistential Clinic of Bahia (ADAB) with the objective of promoting health for the community in general.

The program included several activities such as: capillary blood glucose measurement, blood pressure measurement, body mass index calculation, guidance on dengue prevention, healthy eating, prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STD), guidance on proper body posture, prevention dental caries, visual acuity exam, medical consultations, pediatrics, gynecology, preventive exam, vaccination, among other health promotion services.


The event was attended by the coordinator of the Medicine course, Eliana de Paula, professors Cibele Dourado, Maria Cristina Santana, Isabel Carmem and professors Luis Queiroz and Sidney Carlos, ophthalmologists from IBOPC, Victor Alves de Castro, Paula Caroline Matos, Suelen Caroline Moreira, Bruno Barros and Georgia de Freitas, students and teachers of the health courses at Bahiana among other professionals in the field of pediatrics, gynecology and clinical medicine.


"We hope that the fair will provide quality service, in partnership with Bahiana, because the community needs a more humanized reception focused on health", says Paulo Henrique, a member of the family pastoral activities of the Parish of Brotas.


The Pelvic Floor Care Center (CAAP) was also present at the fair to capture patients with pelvic floor dysfunction. “We are capturing patients with stress urinary incontinence, anal incontinence, who identify feces in their underwear and patients with dysfunction in the sexual act, with difficulties in reaching orgasm and who feel pain during the sexual act, explains physiotherapist Cláudia Figueiredo, a member of the CAAP.


The fair is an initiative of the parish aimed at promoting health, generating benefits for the community in general, which, in most cases, have great difficulty in accessing these services through the Unified Health System (SUS).


“It was the first time that I participated in the fair and I took the opportunity to bring my young daughter, who has a problem with her vision, an excess of blemishes, as I had difficulties with the SUS service”, reports the quality inspector, Josiane Teixeira , 32 years old.


"We are with other sectors of the Bahiana, together with Biomedicine and the Women's Health Group, in order to welcome community residents to raise awareness of the main diseases that most affect individuals, such as hypertension and diabetes”, concludes Luisa Guedes, 5th semester, student of Medicine course and component of the Clinical Medicine League of Bahiana.


The faculty of Bahiana concludes that it is an important work for the student's curriculum, both for the experience and for the assistance provided to the community with excellent service. at the fair is extremely important, as it allows the student to exercise the day-to-day of their profession”, concludes the Biomedicine professor at Bahiana, Sidney Charles.
