“It is with great joy that I welcome the University Telemedicine Network (RUTE) at our institution, I have to remember that, as a student, and when I needed an article, I went to the library to search moldy magazines and often had articles that it took two months and these colleagues who are present here today have the opportunity to discover a new world, with quick access and complete content that I would never have imagined having access to in my time", said Dr. Sandro Barral, representing the Hospital Santo Antônio physician , who attended the inauguration of the Telemedicine University Network (RUTE) unit of that health unit, on September 29th.

Several health education institutions and hospital units accompanied the ceremony through videoconferences. In addition to Hospital Santo Antônio, the Hospital Sarah Lago Norte – International Center for Neuroscience and Rehabilitation, in Brasília (DF) and the Coordination of Occupational Health Policies of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro ( RJ).

The school Bahiana of Medicine, as a nucleus integrated with RUTE, participates in this exchange of opinions, as the network is an updated tool, which allows for a globalized link with the entire world, without physical displacement.

“This initiative is linked to the federal government and invests resources, encouraging hospitals, research centers and schools to communicate through this network, through videoconference or webconference”, explains Prof. Dr. Marta Menezes, coordinator of the Telemedicine and Telehealth Center Bahiana (NUTESB).

Several professionals and students from the health area were present at the ceremony, among them the superintendent of Social Works Sister Dulce and niece of the blessed saint, Maria Rita Pontes, the national coordinator of RUTE, Luiz Ary Messina, the coordinator of the Technology Development Center Educational (CEDETE), Antônio Carlos Costa and the coordinator of the Medicine course at Bahiana, Prof. Eliana de Paula.

“Bahiana, as one of the pioneers to participate in RUTE, has the objective of disseminating knowledge and we are supporting institutions such as Hospital Santo Antônio, Hospital do Subúrbio and we have already promoted a meeting in which we are at your disposal. necessary in terms of technological knowledge. It is extremely important for RUTE to make these internet tools and this integration capacity available”, explains Professor Antônio Carlos Costa.

The initiative is a proposal that makes it possible to facilitate and innovate the research process for both health professionals and institutions and schools, promoting the improvement of existing telemedicine projects and encouraging the emergence of future inter-institutional work.

“Bahia has a group of institutions that are very well connected and aware of this distance practice, both for assistance, training, and for monitoring and collaborative research”, concludes the national coordinator of RUTE, Luiz Ary Messina.
