Students of the Medicine course participate in an awareness activity about the different types of lymphomas, on September 15, from 12 pm to 14 pm, at the Academic Unit Brotas. The initiative celebrates the International Day of Awareness about the disease and is open to the entire community.

"Our objective with this activity with the students of Bahiana is to bring this awareness to younger students of Medicine and other areas of health", explains the coordinator of the Medicine course, Prof. Dr. Eliana de Paula.

International Lymphoma Awareness Day

The International Lymphoma Awareness Day was created in 2004 as the World Lymphoma Awarenes Day (WLAD) by an institution called the Lymphoma Coalition, based in Canada. 63 organizations from 44 countries participate in this institution. In Brazil, only the Brazilian Association of Lymphoma and Leukemia (OPEN) is part.

The aim was to inform the general public about this type of cancer. The reasons are many. Lymphomas (more than 50 types) are a more common type of hematological tumor, affecting individuals of working age, accounting for 5% of all tumors and curable, on average, in 60% of cases.
