Course for Pregnant Women

Share

The Medicine course of Bahiana held, throughout this week, the Course for Pregnant Women, at the Academic Unit Brotas. Each day, a topic related to pregnancy was addressed, such as: pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium, what can and cannot be during pregnancy, breastfeeding, care for the newborn and mother and child relationship, from the intrauterine period.

The course is coordinated by the professor of the Medicine course at Bahiana, Maria Cristina Santana, who develops this work together with students from the 2nd year of Medicine who gave educational lectures. “We have been offering this course to the community for some time now, in order to promote a space, not only for information and guidance, but also for welcoming and humanization. This is an opportunity for students to get closer to the community, also using welcoming and humane methodologies, using videos, relaxation techniques, aromatherapy, color therapy, dramatizations and music”, he points out.

The proposal aims to provide integration between students and the community so that they can experience important issues for academic growth. Student of the 3rd semester of medicine, Vanessa de Oliveira, reports that it is a very interesting experience, both for pregnant women and people who participate in the course, as well as for students. “My lecture was about intimate hygiene and baby bathing and it was super cool, the mothers really liked it, answered their doubts, explained about the bath, the times, the positions, issues that cause a little fear in the fathers. It is a very rewarding opportunity because we need to deal with the newborn in our career and, during the course, this guidance and support for pregnant women is worked out”.

Motherhood is a very special and delicate moment in a woman's life and doubts are constant both during pregnancy and after the baby is born. Many "first-time sailors" are desperate with pregnancy, as is the case of 12-year-old student NE Barbosa, who is seven months pregnant and has little idea of caring for the baby, relying on her mother's help. “I'm just as pregnant as my daughter, who doesn't have the slightest maturity for this pregnancy. This course was essential, because I'm going to help, but I'm not going to do everything, so learning about this care and guidance with the baby is essential”, says Maria Judite, 51, the student's mother.
