On June 3, the School Bahiana of Medicine promoted the Exhibition “A little of each”, at the Academic Unit Brotas.

The schedule was developed by the Occupational Therapy Service of the Teaching-Care Clinic of the Bahiana and featured work by patients from the elderly health and mental health programs. The activities developed in these programs aim to give new meaning to the daily lives of these people.

The Occupational Therapy Service works with the three levels of health care, comprising: health promotion, treatment and rehabilitation. According to the coordinator of the Occupational Therapy Service, Sofia Campos, the exhibition is valid as a therapeutic treatment for these groups. “We work with integrated programs that are elderly health, mental health and child and adolescent health care. This exhibition is a result of the work we developed throughout the semester, through artistic and expressive activities, aimed at promoting the health of these people”, he explains.

The member of the elderly group, Marivalda Souza, 65, reports that the activities are very interactive and that there is an exchange of experiences between the members of the groups, thus facilitating the treatment. “It's a wonderful and very pleasurable experience. I'm everyone's friend and developing these works has a great effect on my life, as I have the opportunity to exchange experiences with new people”, he concludes.

The work developed by the occupational therapist consists of performing occupational and leisure activities in the treatment of physical or mental disorders, emotional and social maladjustments. The treatment uses different technologies and activities to promote the autonomy of individuals who have difficulty integrating into social life due to physical, mental or emotional problems. The therapist from the Occupational Therapy Service of Bahiana and a specialist in gerontology, Ana Cláudia Braga, reports that activities at the center with the elderly are very rich, as there is a great exchange of knowledge.

“We work with the elderly and one of the groups is 'Exchanging Skills', we meet weekly to share some of each one's knowledge and the elderly need to exchange experiences and learn. They themselves bring work ideas and we share them”, he concludes.
