XII Science with Acarajé

On April 16, the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública it was the stage for the “XII Ciência com Acarajé”, at the Cabula Academic Unit. The event was promoted by PET Biomedicina and brought information about science and technology innovations aimed at health. In the program, a lecture was given by Dr. Ronald Edward Blanton, graduated in Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, Ohio (USA) on the topic “Population genetics applied to public health”.

The Biomedicine professor at Bahiana and PET Biomedicina tutor, Sidney Santana, reports that Ciência com Acarajé is a very prestigious event and that it always seeks to bring innovations to its audience.

“We always come in search of new subjects, always looking to the part of technology innovation focused on health. This time, we are bringing an American doctor who will talk about population genetics at the service of health. He has many works in this area aimed at Brazil and Africa. He is a renowned professional with many published articles, many book chapters and many of these books are used by students in the Biomedicine course”, he explains.

Dr Ronald Edward Blanton, Master graduated from Case Western Reserv University (USA) and specialist in infectious diseases, explained a little about research and public health, using the genetics approach.

“I presented some basic concepts of population genetics, a study on schistosomiasis, specifically a project for urban Schistosoma and Schistosoma, control, causes of disease and some concepts about parasitology.” informs.

The event is a great achievement of PET Biomedicina and had more enrollments than expected. At the end of the program, participants were able to enjoy a delicious typical dish from Bahia, the acarajé.
