On March 18, it was promoted by Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública the pre-launch of the book “Psychology in Social Assistance”, at the Academic Unit Brotas. The lecture was given by psychologist Luane Neves Santos and its main objective was to address the limitations and difficulties that Psychology has faced in its practice in social assistance.

“The book deals with the theme of social inequality, between the professional psychologist and the user. We have a meeting between the professional and the user who come from different social classes and, often, this social distance will create some compromises in the bond, in the performance”, explains Luane.

The lecture discussed the issue of social inequality and how professionals deal with this issue, a point of great importance for the students of the course present, as is the case of the first semester student of Psychology at Bahiana, Liz Freitas, 19, for whom the lecture was very interesting, as it portrayed a reality that touched everyone. “I found it very interesting because, like it or not, it portrays a reality that we think is inserted and, many times, it is not, first because we think we are mobilizing and, when we see it, in practice, we are not. I thought it was cool because it showed a perspective that Luane puts himself in this position and how we can practice this and improve the issue of inequality”, he says.

The psychologist and teacher at Bahiana, Mônica Daltro, explains that activities such as the lecture are aimed at the political education of students. “We understand psychology as a health profession and it is not possible to think about health without thinking about political training. We need to prepare students to work in the public service and, for that, we need to think about what political place they are talking about”, he emphasizes.

The coordinator of the Psychology course at Bahiana, Prof. Sylvia Barreto, reported that it was a pleasure to receive the psychologist Luane Neves for the lecture and pre-launch of the book. “We brought together professors and students from the first, second, third, fourth and seventh semesters for a rich discussion. Psychologists and students have a social commitment to Psychology, which creates a space for many debates. With today's experience, we continue the discussion of our curriculum and the way we teach Psychology in Bahiana", Ends.
