From October 31 to November 3, the main names in the country involved in the training of medical professionals will be gathered in Joinville, during the 52nd edition of the Brazilian Congress of Medical Education (COBEM), an event promoted by the Brazilian Association of Education Doctor (ABEM). Once again, the Bahiana it was represented by a delegation that included the participation of professors, course coordinators, components of the Pedagogical Care Centers and Pedagogical Supervision, as well as employees from areas related to pedagogy.

Led by the director of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, the group participated in activities such as round tables and presentation of oral works and panels. The event also signed the constitution of the new ABEM director, who now has the participation of Dr. Maria Luisa as the association's treasurer director.

This year COBEM brought up the theme “Medical Schools as Transformers of Society”. According to Dr. Maria Luisa, medical schools have a fundamental role in the training of future doctors and, therefore, they must always be in tune with the new curricular guidelines, seeking to implement them as quickly as possible. “Our school, in fact, is already making the small changes necessary to adapt. This new doctor to be trained must have a commitment to society and a social responsibility very well established during their training, with a broad vision of the social and political determinants of health, being prepared to work at the various levels of health care with a view to and a humanist attitude, in addition to solid scientific and technical knowledge”.

For the coordinator of the Medicine course, Prof. Dr. Eliana de Paula, one of the positive points in participating in the congress was establishing contacts with members of other medical schools. "In this last edition, the contacts with representatives of traditional medical schools were very fruitful, which made us realize that we are on the right path, in addition to providing opportunities for knowledge and debate on the educational policy in force in the country."

According to the coordinator of People Development, Prof. Luiza Ribeiro, the Bahiana has been participating in ABEM congresses and is now recognized as a model medical school. “Our participation is always taking knowledge and innovation. THE Bahiana has been a protagonist in the process of pedagogical construction, being always invited to participate in meetings to share her experience. An example of this are our services, such as the Pedagogical Care Center and the Pedagogical Supervision Center, the latter being an unprecedented action in medical schools in Brazil”.

Another differential of the participation of Bahiana, highlighted by Prof. Luiza Ribeiro, was the presence of coordinators and teachers from other courses at the Bahiana. "This participation of professors from other graduations precisely reflects the interdisciplinary vision of the Bahiana which aims to teach health as a whole, bringing together the various actions. Therefore, the participation of professors of Physiotherapy, Nursing, Psychology, etc., is important.”

The participation of the delegation of Bahiana was considered of paramount importance by the coordinator of the NAPP, Prof. Angélica Mendes. "The participation of the Bahiana, as well as all higher education institutions in health. We have a lot to gain from the exchange of experiences, from contacts with professionals from different parts of the country, as well as we can see that we have discussions, planning and actions that correspond to the Regulatory Norms and the necessary advances for cutting-edge teaching quality".

Within the program, Prof. Angélica also highlights the value of the discussions that addressed health and its sociocultural determinants, as well as the emphasis on the concern with health in the country, in the medium and long term, including the importance of other professional categories, pointing to the importance of their presence in that space. She also emphasizes the importance of the Forum on Support Services for Medical Students and Medical Residents "as a space for discussion on the importance of subjectivity in medical training and practice, as well as care and care practices that should permeate training and the teaching-learning process, as contemplated by the national curriculum guidelines”.

In addition to pedagogical issues, COBEM also rekindled the incentive for professionals working in the medical education segment. “Joinville gave us the certainty that it is still possible to live in Brazil with security, a sense of collectivity and belief in a coherent public administration”, declared Prof. Angélica Mendes.
