Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani - Bahiana it is highly respected within the medical education movement and, being present on the ABEM board, is a recognition of its role in discussions on medical training in Brazil.

- Why is it important to hold an event focused on medical education?

Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani - This event has been held annually for 52 years and is very important for the improvement of medical education. It includes students and professors of medicine, residents, medical schools, entities linked to the health area, public administrators, as well as representatives of the MS and the MEC. Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani - The school Bahiana He has been intensely involved in the medical education movement, since the creation of ABEM, having even hosted two Brazilian congresses here in Bahia, one in 1975 and another in 2008, in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the creation of the first medical school in Brazil. We always have an expressive presence at congresses with the participation of many professors and students. In this last COBEM we had about 20 participants, we presented posters and participated in tables. We have contributed with our experience, which is considered innovative in many aspects, not only because we managed to start implementing the 2001 curriculum guidelines in the same year they were promulgated, finding new solutions to restructure the curriculum, but also for the use of active and creative teaching methodologies, with intense participation and training of teachers and a program to monitor the teaching and learning process, also innovative, with the creation of academic-pedagogical supervision and the NAPP, in 2000, We are considered a reference national level in several of these programs.

Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani - They have an extremely important role in the training of new doctors that Brazil so much needs and, therefore, they need to discuss the new curricular guidelines widely and implement them as quickly as possible. Our school, in fact, is already making the small changes necessary to adapt. This new doctor to be trained must have a commitment to society and a social responsibility very well established during their training, with a broad vision of the social and political determinants of health, being prepared to work at different levels of health care with a view to and a humanistic attitude, in addition to solid scientific and technical knowledge. Therefore, training these professionals for the health system in our country is the commitment of medical schools to transforming society.

- What points discussed at the congress would you highlight and that can reflect in a concrete way in the education of the medical student?

Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani - Two very important points were the discussions about the new curricular guidelines and the new organizational contracts that must manage the relations between educational institutions and those responsible for practice scenarios. They will directly reflect on the training of students.
