Art as a tool in care. This was the reflection of the VII Nursing Conference of Bahiana which took place on November 22nd and 23rd, at the Cabula Academic Unit and had the participation of academics, professors and representatives of the Regional Nursing Council of Bahia (COREN-BA), the Brazilian Nursing Association (ABEN Section Bahia) and the Union of Bahia nurses.

The opening table was attended by the director of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, from the coordinator of the Nursing course, Prof. Maria de Lourdes Gomes de Freitas, from the president of COREN-BA, Maria Luísa de Castro Almeida, from the president of ABEN Bahia Section, Tânia Bulcão, in addition to coordinator of the journey, Prof. Simone Passos and the representative of the students, Adriana Coelho.

As an example of the use of art in caring for people, the Anjos da Enfermagem (BA) group opened the day's activities by demonstrating its performance in healthcare units in Salvador, with an artistic exhibition that brought together theater, music and dance. According to Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, art imposes itself as a beneficial element, both when used as a means of approximation between the caregiver and care and for the health professional himself. "It's always good to read novels, watch movies, go to the theater. Art serves the individual both personally and professionally. It makes the person's world open to other things that are not technical knowledge, scientific knowledge, but it expands your knowledge as a human being".

The activity served as a hook for the lecture "As Dimensões do Caring", by the guest nurse, Maria Julia Paes da Silva. In her speech, the professor at the University of São Paulo (USP) highlighted the importance of therapeutic relationships and how the way of caring for a patient is fundamental for nursing, as a profession. "It is in the "how" each technique is done that nursing is qualified. This "how" is fundamental, as this is where we preserve the dignity of people".

For Prof. Maria de Lourdes, "it is very good for us to be able to share these experiences and bring someone who has great experience and recognition in the field of nursing, a care researcher. The way she presented care, strengthens the conception with which we work not only in the Nursing course, but in the entire Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, who has been working to train a critical, humanistic professional with ethical and moral values, concerned with meeting the demands of society, attentive to the Unified Health System. So, when we hear someone talk about it, we are sure that we are on the way. right and that we are doing a different kind of nursing, a nursing with art".
