“A feast of knowledge”. This is the definition that the director of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, takes part in the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition, held on September 25 and 26, at the Cabula Academic Unit, which this year reached its 14th edition with 147 oral presentations and 253 scientific works on posters. "The importance of MCC is to provide that both the student and the teacher are producing knowledge. We are not concerned with just passing on knowledge, which is also very important for the student to learn everything that is currently known about what he will use in your profession, but also in producing new knowledge. It's the time to show the knowledge we produce to society as a whole. So we call the external community, we bring children, elderly and teenagers so that the knowledge we've learned and what we've produced arrives to people, because that is the objective", declares Dr. Maria Luisa.

The program also included six mini-courses, six workshops, in addition to health promotion actions carried out at a large fair with five stands from academic leagues. In addition to students, professors and employees, the Bahiana received visits from seniors from Ceia do Senhor Parish, 3rd grade children from Engomadeira Municipal School, teenagers from Colégio Estadual Governador Roberto Santos, Francisco da Conceição Menezes State School, Rio Amazonas community, NEOJIBÁ and Young Apprentices of Bahiana, totaling 296 people. For each group, educational activities were carried out on the importance of brushing and oral hygiene, prevention of domestic accidents, vocational guidance, teenage pregnancy, among others.

For the 6th semester student of Nursing, Maria Rita Alves da Silva, the exhibition is the time to transfer the knowledge acquired in academic activities to other people. It is part of the Education for Work Program – PET Redes. “I think PET Redes is a very good initiative because it involves students from several courses. It is a multidisciplinary work that allows us to exchange experiences. Being here today, at MCC, makes it possible to transfer everything we are learning."

Maria Rita, together with colleagues from PET Redes, promoted the educational action to prevent domestic accidents in children. The group, coordinated by Prof. Dilton Mendonça received children from Escola Municipal da Engomadeira. According to the professor at the institution, Maria Rita Santos Bonfim, “the visit to Bahiana it was a wonderful opportunity, one of them even declared it was the best tour he's ever done, for another it was the first time he used fluoride. They need this opportunity as they come from an area of tremendous social conflict.” Agreeing with the teacher, the nine-year-old student, Fabian Mascarenhas declared: "The visit was very good, because I had never been here, I thought it was really cool. The activity I enjoyed most was brushing my teeth."

In addition to enabling knowledge sharing, participating in the MCC is also an opportunity for learning, in a dynamic way, as emphasized by the 7th semester Physiotherapy student, Vitor Soares. “I participated in four shows and, this year, the difference was the organization. What I like about the show as an event is that it allows for hands-on experience for beginning semester students. It was my first practical experience. When I started, I participated in Pesado - a project in which we performed postural assessments on patients. Today, the practical experience is with the League of Physiotherapy, Orthopedics and Sport (LAFORTE). This time, we work with customer service. So, at the beginning, when I participated, I learned to evaluate and today I'm working”.

#MCCEUFUI

One of the differentials of the XIV Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana it was the involvement of students in the entire process of organizing the event, an unprecedented action that was fundamental in mobilizing the entire community Bahiana get involved, as explained by Maria Angélica Mendes, the technical head of the Psychopedagogical Care Center. “I believe this is a reflection of an innovative action that was the student committee that we created to work together with the exhibition's organizing committee. And they participated in a very grouped way. They did a lot of previous mobilization work. So we saw that the work for MCC has been increasingly organized and that it mobilizes the entire institution because its importance is the scientific production of students and professors. So, the mobilization among professors and students and the social responsibility actions that take place every year is getting better”.

Awards

As in all editions, MCC offered, through a raffle, air tickets for participation in congresses and scientific events to students who submitted works to be presented at the event. This year, Nursing students, Emanuele Rosados Costa, were awarded the poster “Quality of life for nursing professionals in the workplace”, under the guidance of Prof. Carina Oliveira dos Santos and Mariana Santos Lago, with the oral communication work “Perceptions of Puerperal Women Victims of Institutional Violence”, under the guidance of Prof. Bárbara Angélica Gomez Perez.
