Meeting discusses postgraduate development in private HEIs

The event brought together representatives of institutions from 16 Brazilian states.

The sound of the Camerata de Violão from the Institute of Music of the Catholic University of Salvador (UCSal) started the XV National Postgraduate and Research Meeting of Private IES, which took place on September 29 and 30, at the Convention Center of the Bahiana, at the Cabula Academic Unit.

This year, the meeting had as its theme “Postgraduate Studies, Research and Extension: perspectives for its consolidation in private HEIs” and was held together with the IX National Meeting of the Private HEI Extension Forum” (FOREXP). Both events are organized by the National Foundation for the Development of Private Higher Education (Funadesp).

During these two days, postgraduate managers and directors of private higher education institutions from different states met with the aim of strengthening and consolidating the postgraduate and research segments. 

“It is a great pleasure to host this event at the Bahiana. We hope that these two days will be very fruitful for us to strengthen the development of postgraduate studies in private higher education institutions”, declared, in her opening speech, the Postgraduate, Research and Extension coordinator at Bahiana, Dr. Kátia Sá.

According to Dr. Cícero Ivan Ferreira Gontijo, director-superintendent of Funadesp, “this edition had 88 subscribers from 43 institutions in 16 Brazilian states. Even though there are few from each state, we have more than half of Brazil represented here”.

The program opened with the round table “Postgraduate, Research and Extension: perspectives for its consolidation in private HEIs” which had as speaker the president of the Council of Rectors of Brazilian Universities-CRUB and the dean of the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás- PUC/GO, Prof. Wolmir Amado, and had the participation of Dr. Cícero Ivan Ferreira Gontijo, Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research at Faculdade Novos Horizontes/MG, Prof. Marlene Catarina O. Lopes Melo, dean of Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie/SP, Prof. Benedito Guimarães Aguiar Neto and the rector of the FUMEC/MG University, Prof. Eduardo Martins de Lima, as debaters.

Among the activities carried out during the two days, there were lectures, roundtables and meetings of the Private HEI Post-Graduate and Research Leaders Network – PGP Network and the Private HEI Extension Forum – FOREXP.
