A few meters from the Campus Brotas, the General Coordinator is located in a central neighborhood of the city. The building houses the institution's Rectory, as well as our Management and Quality Center (NGQ) and our Planning Advisory Board (ASPLAN).&nbsp; In the Coordination's gardens, there is a bronze statue of the late Professor Humberto de Castro Lima, former general coordinator of the FBDC. It is an environment surrounded by nature and historical landmarks of our academic community. Here, our students can contact the Institutional Academic Relationship and Internationalization Center (REAI) and the Research Ethics Committee (CEP). The General Coordination also includes the Distance Learning Nucleus (NEAD), the Educational Technologies Development Center (CEDETE), the Communication and Marketing Nucleus (NUCOM), the Evaluation Committee (CPA) and the Department of Infrastructure (DEPIN).
 In this building are also located the Commercial and People Development, Administrative and Financial, Legal, Communication and Marketing, Institutional Development and Social Impact Business coordinations.

Campus Brotas

Surrounded by a vast green area, this campus has 20 laboratories, 30 classrooms e 3 auditoriums. The library is also open to the outside community, with comfortable spaces for reading, studying and socializing. The environment has a modern and complete infrastructure, ample parking and social center with cafeteria. Last Wednesday, May 29, students from CETEB (Bahia State Technological Education Center) in Feira de Santana participated in another edition of the project Bahiana for one day, which aims to instruct students professionally, in order to assist them in their choice for the entrance exam, presenting the health courses of the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública. 
&nbsp; 
The 32 students were divided into two groups and toured the structure of Campus Cabula. In the Morphofunctional Laboratory, medical students and monitors from the Morphofunctional Sciences Group presented explanations about the genitourinary and digestive, musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neuroendocrine systems.

Physiotherapist Ellen Beatriz told students about her professional trajectory, what activities exist in the field of physiotherapy and gave a practical demonstration on how the balance of the human body works.

At the Dental Center of Bahiana, the manager Lísia Oliveira explained how care works on site and showed the facilities of the Triage and Emergency Unit (UTU), the administrative area, the Surgical Center and the outpatient clinics, where patient care is provided. The visit continued at the Biomedicine Laboratory, where a practical activity on Microscopy took place, led by biomedical scientist Emily Figueiredo. &nbsp;

Claudenir Moreira Machado, director of CETEB school, expressed his gratitude for witnessing his students participating in this day of knowledge about various professions: “I would like to congratulate the program at Bahiana, because it is wonderful. I believe that every high school should be involved in an action like this. It is a very enriching moment for students. It is necessary that this group has access to as much information as possible about the university and the professions and is inserted in this academic space, which also has a professional environment, with clinics and laboratories, as it is very enriching”. 
The nursing teacher Cristiane Magali promoted a playful activity about care and reported about the Nursing course and its work aspects. The students ended the day with psychologist Lorilay Farias, who shared about the Psychology course in Bahiana and made a game of myths and truths of Psychology.

The student, Iasmim Lima, from the 3rd year of high school at CETEB school, told about her experience with Bahiana for a day: “I'm in love with the Bahiana. I've always liked Medicine and the health area, and knowing the courses and structure of this faculty made me fall in love even more. I found it all very interesting. I liked how the Medicine monitors explained about the human body and I also liked the dynamic activities carried out by the professors of the other courses. ”

“The incidence of AIDS in the younger population, between 14 and 24 years old, has tripled in recent years. Therefore, it is essential to educate this group based on information about the forms of transmission, the epidemiological and biomolecular scenario of HIV”. Thus, explains the professor of Medicine Rogério Grimaldi, coordinator of the I Basic Symposium on HIV/AIDS da Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública. The event, which took place on May 24 and 25, at Campus Cabula, was attended by renowned speakers, such as doctors Bernardo Galvão, Geraldo Argolo, Giselle Calasans, Luana Góis, Lívia Pugliese, Rogério Grimaldi, Thaís Bomfim, Filipe Rego, Taísa Machado, Everardo de Carvalho, Carlos Brites and Paula Pires. For the coordinator of the initiative, preparing health professionals to deal with these alarming rates is a fundamental step.

The opening ceremony was held on May 25, from 19:21 pm to XNUMX:XNUMX pm, and, in addition to the opening cocktail, the first day of the program was marked by a lecture by Dr. Bernardo Galvão, the first researcher who isolated the HIV virus in America Latin. The professor and doctor addressed the global and national history of HIV, highlighted the importance of the action aimed at professionals and students and congratulated the great participation of the public: “Young people today did not experience the HIV epidemic, they were born in a time when there was effective treatments for infection control. However, even today, these treatments cause many adverse reactions. Therefore, it is always better to be safe than sorry”. The coordinator of the Biomedicine course, Geraldo Argolo, was present during the opening of the Symposium and spoke on the second day of the event.

Rogério Grimaldi showed, in his opening speech, that the population aged 60 years and over has also been a frequent victim of the infection, as, with the increase in life expectancy, this age group has become more active, even sexually. According to data from the Ministry of Health, in 2005, 1.131 new cases were reported daily within this age group. In 2015, this rate rose to 2.100 cases. Deaths from HIV rose from 577 to 1.251 in the same period and continue to increase, that is, for the elderly, both new AIDS cases and the number of deaths grew. 
&nbsp; 
It should be noted that the lack of information regarding sexually transmitted infections, specifically those resulting from HIV, is still quite significant in the country. While, worldwide, there was a decrease of 11% in the total number of cases of infection by the virus between 2010 and 2018, in Brazil, there was a 3% increase in cases in the same period”. In this first event, the proposal was to improve AIDS prevention strategies with informative presentations and discussions on topics related to the infection”, adds Dr. Rogério.

During the event, lectures on the themes: "Historical Retrospect of HIV Biological Studies", "Structure, Genetic Variability and HIV Infection and Replication Cycle", "Forms of Viral Transmission: horizontal and vertical", "Aspects of the Immune Response Against HIV-1", "Susceptibility and Resistance to HIV Infection", "Resistance to Antiretroviral Therapy: identification of mutations", "Clinical progression to AIDS" and "Legal, ethical and discrimination aspects of HIV carriers", composed the schedule for the 26th of may, from 8 am to 18 pm.

Student Maria Laís Mascarenhas, from the 5th semester of Medicine, reports that “the participation of renowned researchers was very interesting, such as Dr. Bernardo Galvão, who is a reference in Latin America. For students, having this opportunity enriches their academic and professional training”.

Bahiana promotes I Basic Symposium on HIV/AIDS

Bahiana participates in the XV Health Fair in the Parish of Brotas 
Event provided several free services to the local community

Solidarity, disease prevention and awareness. This was the XV Health Fair of the Parish of Nossa Senhora de Brotas, which took place on the morning of last Saturday, May 25, at the community center of the Parish of Nossa Senhora de Brotas. The event featured lectures on health promotion and free medical care for the population. 
&nbsp; 
the residents of Brotas had access to free haircut services, healthy eating instruction, blood pressure measurement, physiotherapy with guidance for patients with chronic pain, health surveillance, prevention of diseases such as dengue, yellow fever and chikungunya and general clinic consultations, gynecology and ophthalmology.

The event's coordinator, Dr. Eliana de Paula, emphasizes the importance of the health fair: “It is a special space, a field of practice for our students, a favorable environment to exercise social responsibility, teamwork and communication . Students from the Medicine, Biomedicine and Physiotherapy courses are collaborating, and, for the first time this year, residents of Family and Community Medicine participated.”

This partnership between the Bahiana and the Parish of Brotas it is lasting. Father Ademilton de Santa Bárbara describes how this occasion is significant for the exercise of solidarity: “This health fair has been taking place here in the parish for a long time before I arrived here, and when I started to participate, I realized how much this partnership with the Bahiana it's something spectacular. These free services and health care are very important, mainly because we live in a reality in which the institutions responsible for the health care of the population are often absent from their role. The entire community participates in this event and it is gratifying to witness this moment”.

During the fair, it was possible to notice the intense performance of students and teachers from the Bahiana. Sara Rocha, Professor of Public Health I, tells how she structured the participation of students in the event: “I brought students from my discipline with the aim of promoting knowledge about various diseases that affect the local community. We did a survey to find out which are the main illnesses suffered by the population here in Brotas and, based on that, we set up banners and strategies to inform these people about the prevention of these diseases”.

Rafael Lélis, a medical student, expresses his feeling of gratitude when working at the fair: “It is very gratifying to participate in this health fair. We know that many people do not have the financial conditions to have quality health care, and the public health system has flaws in terms of serving this population. So when the Bahiana promotes such an event, we need to participate and make ourselves available to provide citizen care”.

Many institutions were partners of the Bahiana in the execution of the XV Health Fair of the Parish of Nossa Senhora de Brotas. Gesilda Amorim, health surveillance inspector, represented Salvador City Hall and reported about her presence at the event: “We came here today with the role of making citizens aware of the importance of food and medication surveillance. Many people consume these products, but are unaware of the care that the establishment needs to take with its customers. It is essential that the population is informed of everything that impacts their health”.

The presence of the local community was great. Many people were attended to during the morning and left the place satisfied. The resident Letícia Raul took her daughter Esther for a consultation and shared her experience: “I always participate in this fair and I really like it. Today I brought my daughter to be seen by pediatrics and I am very happy to have had the opportunity to participate in an event like this, with free and quality care”.

XV Health Fair in the Parish of Brotas

First Symposium "Prejudice with Drugs" is held by Bahiana 
Meeting promoted discussions in the field of health and the legal sphere

Understand the social and health issues in the consumption of psychoactives. That was the purpose of the 1st Symposium "Prejudice with Drugs: How far does your scientific knowledge go?" promoted by Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública. The event, which took place on May 23, at Campus Cabula, was organized by teachers of Public Health Marlene Barreto and Ricardo Araújo, together with students from the Dentistry course. 
&nbsp; 
During the opening of the symposium, professor Marlene Barreto spoke about the choice of theme addressed at the event. “This semester, we decided to talk about drugs, as it allows us to expand the work done in the classroom, in the subject of Public Health. We work with the extended clinic from the perspective of the biopsychosocial subject, so this subject has a biological one, but it also has a subjective dimension, which is part of a social context. So, it is from this line of thought that we are here today discussing psychoactive drugs”.

Professor Ricardo Araújo tells how the discussion about drugs in academia is still taboo and the relevance of talking about the subject with future health professionals: “We brought the proposal to address this issue in a scientific way, because in everyday life , we hear a lot of misinformation about drugs. We want professional ways to understand what are the problems related to psychoactive drugs and the context in which the user is inserted, with the objective of not simply judging these people, but understanding this social issue with a synergistic look”.

The People Development Coordinator at Bahiana, Luiza Ribeiro, expresses her opinion about the importance of dealing with this issue: “We, who work with care for the other, have to look at people and understand their stories rather than judging the situation in which they find themselves with consumption of psychoactives. It is a life lesson to understand drug issues, and all our students, future psychologists, dentists, physiotherapists and doctors will work with patients who suffer from this situation and need to know how to deal with it in a humanistic way."

The symposium had a diversified program, in which the following perspectives were exposed: clinical ethics in the care of users of alcohol and other drugs; drug use and academic training; the management of medical and psychological interventions in the consumption of psychoactive drugs; and the legalization of drugs, this being the theme mediated by the judge of the Judicial District of Conceição do Coité, Dr. Gerivaldo Alves Neiva.

One of the main speakers was Dr. Antônio Nery, founder of the Center for Studies and Therapy of Drug Abuse (CETAD/UFBA), who explained how important it is to understand about drugs in an ethical and social way. “The university is a privileged place for training, and this phenomenon of drug use has been very disliked. We therefore need to show students that the problem is not drugs but people. They are people who live and have difficulty, get sick and end up seeing psychoactive drugs as an alternative to life. These academic meetings are essential for us to address social problems.”

Several students and professionals attended the event. Nursing technician Dulce Matos explains what she thought of the symposium: “I really liked it, it was very enriching. The topic discussed is something broad and differentiated. For us, health professionals, it is very important to understand the life of the patient who uses psychoactive substances”.

The 7th semester student of Dentistry Isabela Caetano was one of the organizers of the symposium and shared about why studying drugs adds academic and professional training. “Due to our clinical demand, we began to see that many patients had drug addiction and that understanding what this means for the life of the person suffering from this problem makes a difference in health care. When we talk about legalization, we need to know, based on scientific theory, from a health and legal point of view, how drug use influences the lives of citizens”.

Symposium "Drug Prejudice"

The students from the Brotas and Cabula experienced the courses of Bahiana.

The May 22nd edition of Bahiana for a day was attended by 24 students from Colégio Resgate from the Brotas and Kabula. The action was held at Campus Cabula, from 14:10 pm to 17 pm. The high school students experienced the courses of Bahiana and answered questions about the professional performance of the health areas. 
&nbsp; 
When starting the program, the high school students were divided into two groups that took turns between courses during the visitation itinerary. At the Morphofunctional Laboratory, monitors from the Morphofunctional Sciences Group demonstrated the curricular components of the Medicine course. In room S08, in pavilion III, in addition to teacher Mayana Souza, students Enzo Gondiano and Lucas Menezes, members of the Academic League of Physiotherapy in Orthopedics and Sports at Bahiana – LAFORT, both from the 5th semester, carried out biomechanical assessments and exemplified the importance of proper treatment for physical injuries.

Student Lucas Menezes said that clarifying the profession for young people was enriching. The professor of the Physiotherapy course, Mayana Souza, classified the program as a moment of dissemination and guidance regarding the health of the community.

At the Dental Center of Bahiana, the manager Lísia Oliveira presented the service structure for third-year students. Professor João Franco held a dynamic at the Movement Study Laboratory/Physical Education Skills Laboratory, to encourage the practice of exercises in everyday life. Soon after, professor Cristiane Magali, from the Nursing course, provoked the reflection of high school students in relation to the understanding of Caring in Nursing. 
In room S08, psychologist and former student, Fernando Arruti, addressed the fields of psychology, in addition to presenting the activity “Myths and Truths About Psychology”. The former student points out that “these actions are important for teenagers who are in the academic and professional choice phase”.

The Microbiology activity was taught by the employee of the Bahiana, biomedical and former student, Emilly Figueiredo, at the Laboratory of Chemical, Physical and Biological Sciences I.

The coordinator of the third year of Colégio Resgate, Rosana Leão, highlighted that the school, this year alone, had already participated in the initiative twice: "On another occasion, I had the opportunity to mediate this activity that works as a guide for young people" . Student João Pedro Bahia, 17, reported that he was enchanted by the institution and the structure of the courses. Igor Nepomuceno, 17, also highlighted the positive experience he had: “The third year is a decision-making phase, and this initiative helped a lot, especially those who intend to pursue the health area”.

Great reflections mark the 11th edition of the Nursing Journey 
Meeting discussed issues of gender, race and women's health.

The chat environment in a living room characterized the XI Nursing Conference of Bahiana which, this year, took place on May 22nd and 23rd, at Campus Cabula, and invited participants to reflect on the theme "Women: Health, Gender and Race". The opening "living room" featured speeches by the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies Stricto Senso, prof. Atson Fernandes, the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Education, Prof. Maria de Lourdes de Freitas Gomes, the Coordinator of People Development, Prof. Luiza Ribeiro, and the Coordinator of the Nursing Course, Prof.ª Simone Passos, in addition to the speeches of guests Tânia Bulcão, president of the Brazilian Nursing Association – Bahia Session, Lúcia Moliterno, president of the Bahia State Nurses Union and Joana Evangelista Conceição Silva, advisor to the Bahia Regional Nursing Council ( COREN-BA). The opening words were from the general coordinator of the Jornada, prof. Mariana Nossa. 
 
Tânia Bulcão congratulated the Bahiana by choosing the theme. She recognized the role of the School of resistance to some measures taken by the current federal government, in addition to reaffirming ABEN's commitment to defending quality universities: "ABEN is committed to fighting the setbacks we have been experiencing in the country. We are in favor of it. of quality public and private universities, such as the Bahiana". Tânia also highlighted the dialogue that the Bahiana it maintains with the communities, through outreach programs, "which are extremely important. This is transformative, as it leads students to dialogue and learn with the community, and the community to learn from the university, which transforms a social reality ". 
 
Joana Evangelista Conceição Silva mentioned some COREN initiatives related to the theme of the Journey, such as racial and gender issues. “The issue of women, gender and race here is really a rewarding choice. It is good to discuss this. It is necessary to discuss how much we have a large number of femicide. It is important to say that we need to shout for them to stop killing us!" She also highlighted the actions of the Technical Committee on Health of the Black Population, which discusses the issue of diseases such as sickle cell anemia, hypertension and other illnesses that affect the black population. 
In her speech, Professor Maria de Lourdes de Freitas Gomes reported a little about the history of the undergraduate Nursing course, of which she was the first coordinator. Prof. Atson Fernandes pointed out the importance of documenting the intellectual production generated in events, such as the Nursing Journey, and how this data compilation can contribute to the academic and professional framework of the area in the future. 
 
"It is a joy to be together and to be able to talk about nursing, women, talk about prejudice and racism. The theme of this journey was collectively constructed. It was born from an orientation given by Prof. Luiza Ribeiro, who asked each course to try to discuss the racism. Because that would be the topic discussed by Bahiana throughout 2019", explained Prof. Simone Passos. "We are part of Bahiana, which is an avant-garde school that discusses social, emerging and important issues."

Poem 
The theme of racism was addressed by second-semester nursing student Thamara Nascimento, who, at the time, declaimed her poem, "The wound that undresses me", already presented in the 2019 edition of the Poetry Circuit. 
 
Dance 
As is already a characteristic of academic events at the Bahiana, the manifestation of artistic languages ​​was present in the program, with the presentation of the ACOPAMEC youth and teenagers dance group, an initiative whose main objective is to promote self-knowledge through dance workshops.

"Brazil occupies the 5th place in the world ranking of femicide"; "In 2017, 60.018 women were victims of rape in Brazil"; "In the first 5 months of 2017, 15.751 cases of violence against women were registered in Bahia"; "In 2018, 4.461 femicides were registered in the country"; "9 Brazilian women were victims of aggression per minute in 2018". These were some of the data pointed out by the Jornada Art and Culture Commission, through a video clip that featured performances by teachers Cristiane Magali, Mariana Nossa, Alexandra Noemi Silva, Rosicleide Araújo Freitas, Ana Maria Cruz Santos and Ana Shirlei Maranhão Vieira. The video, which was created by the professor of the Nursing course, Artur Gomes Dias Lima, is the unfolding of a photographic exhibition in which the professors appear characterized as victims of violence against women. 
 
Conference 
Still in the morning, the nurse, researcher and professor of the Nursing course at UFBA Sílvia Ferreira presented the conference "Gender, Health and Nursing". Among the questions raised by the speaker, the reflection "If we have so many indicators and procedures for care, why do women's death data remain the same?" 
 
Innovation 
The 2019 edition of the Nursing Journey brought some news, such as a more effective participation of students in the organization. According to Professor Mariana Nossa, when choosing the topic to be addressed, the students were heard. Using software, a cloud of words was created, which were chosen by the students: "Then we collected what they liked, what they wanted to know, what were the demands, the needs and then, together with the faculty , we aligned these answers with the institution's main purposes – to discuss the issue of racism and women – because we cannot ignore the fact that nursing as a profession has an image of eminently female and that it historically deals with these gender issues ”. In all, the Journey had 154 subscribers. 
 
Another innovation was the occupation of more spaces with the entrepreneurship fair, which brought together health professionals with their products and initiatives. 
"I found, in Entrepreneurship, my hobby, my passion and the solution to overcome my family and economic challenges, turning it into much more than a source of income, turning it into my career", the speech is by Ane Vasconcelos, a student of the Nursing course at Bahiana, who, for the sustainability of his family, started to produce and sell sweets and snacks, through his Instagram profile: @aneecelos. Ane, who also works as a nursing technician, says that the two activities have caring for the other in common: "Within health, I got to know entrepreneurship and started making cakes. Today I perform both activities, I take care through the activity I'm a nursing technician and I'm also welcoming and sweetening people's lives in a different way. I love what I do, going to hospitals, caring, listening, providing this service, because I understand that we are here to serve". 
 
In addition to the other exhibitors, the fair was also the space for the launch of the book "Management, Assistance and Teaching at Hospital Geral Roberto Santos – Evidences of Nursing Care in the Unified Health System", which was organized by nurses Aldacy Gonçalves Ribeiro, Carina Marinho Picanço and Rudval Souza da Silva. 
 
The first morning of activities ended with the 6th Meeting of Nursing Graduates, where the guests shared their academic and professional experiences with the students present, highlighting the differentials that the Nursing course of Bahiana provides entry to the labor market. 
 
Information 
The afternoon of the first day of the journey was full of practical activities. In this sense, workshops were held with the themes: "Professional Health Practices: how to (re)act in the face of sexual and gender diversity?", directed by the Academic League of Sexuality and Gender (LASG); "Health needs of homeless women and their management", performed by prof. Jean Freitas; "Humanized delivery and non-pharmacological techniques for pain relief", with nurse Jordana Brock Carneiro and "The role of nurses in the prevention of cervical cancer and STIs: rapid tests and syndromic approach", performed by nurses Bárbara Perez and Ana Paula Vidal. 
 
2 Day 
Once again, the "living room" atmosphere was created at the Talk Show, an event organized by the People Development coordinator at Bahiana, Luiza Ribeiro, on the second day of the Journey. She received the invited speakers: Cíntia Mesquita, nurse at the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide – NEPS, at Hospital Geral Roberto Santos, Cíntia Maria Carvalho, obstetric nurse and Carle Porcino, psychologist and doctoral student in the Graduate Program in Nursing and Health of UFBA. 
 
Suicide as a result of abuse in the home was the focus of Cíntia Mesquita's speech at the conference "Representations of suicide by women with a history of domestic violence". On the occasion, she presented the work developed at NEPS, a statement that was illustrated by the video "How to deal with depression and suicidal behavior?"&nbsp; 
 
"Obstetric violence and the impacts on women's health" was the theme of Cíntia Maria Machado's speech, a subject that raised a strong debate among the participants of the Conference. "I found this opportunity to be here today and be able to carry out this wonderful and happy exchange enriching. Carle Porcino's speech, about how gender issues should be addressed in health environments, was the motto of the conference "Specificities in the reception and care provided to transgender people and transvestites by nursing professionals". In addition to data from surveys, she shared with those present her personal experiences as a trans woman in contact with the LGBT community in the health units of the public system. 
"I, as a pedagogue, felt really challenged to mediate a contemporary conversation, yes, and focused on health, but with such special people. The three themes mobilized me a lot. I'm much more touched, as I said here in public. I leave thinking about many things, I leave excited and happy to see the Nursing students connected, participating and, for sure, this will take a quantum leap in their education. Congratulations to the Jornada committee and to our Simone Passos, coordinator of this beautiful orchestra, thank you", declared Professor Luiza Ribeiro, moved, at the end of the Talk Show. 
 
“The balance I make of the Jornada is that it was two very intense days and full of discussion. And I think the main objective is to awaken this seed of the doubt of "I didn't know", of reflection. So I think that if people even minimally leave here reflecting on 'what I used to do and what I can do differently', we will have achieved our goal. The Journey was able to awaken in this student body the need for (trans)training and then, when I put this “trans” in parentheses, I refer both to the transformative processes and to the transsexualization processes, which was one of the points addressed by Carle", points Mariana Nossa. 
 
The theme of the entire journey aroused deep reflections such as that of teacher Cristiane Magali, who asked to speak at the end of the activity: 
I feel that a lot of people who are here would like to speak. I've been doing a reconnaissance trail for a long time and I understand that we are not bodies. I think it's important for us to locate what all these people here said, especially as a health care professional, and that led us to reflect that we are not just bodies, but that there are people, energies that inhabit these bodies. That we can leave here today, after these two days, already reflecting, as students and professionals, that every time someone like that is in front of us, we need to respect the energy and the person who inhabits that body (. ..). And I say this from the position of teacher, nurse and, above all, educator, because I think that we, also educators, sometimes violate the bodies of our students. And I'm not talking about the invasion and violence to a body by procedure, but there are bodies that talk about their pain, and that we sometimes have another requirement of our place of power and knowing when we define the that the student needs to learn. So I think it was too rich (the Journey), beyond the professional, the woman, for our being, which we really are. And when I said I wouldn't be talking to myself, it's because today I have another awareness in me: that I'm me with us. I no longer perceive myself as a being who, despite being unique, individual and needing to be respected, can only be (human being) being with others. This, for me, is so true today that anything contrary to it deprives me of myself.

11th edition of the Nursing Journey

The 18th edition had 713 subscribers, including dental students and professionals. 
JOBA of adulthood: science, technology and ethics! This was the theme of the 18th edition of the Dentistry Journey of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública. The event took place on April 16 and 17, from 8:18 am to 30:713 pm, at Campus Cabula and had a total number of XNUMX subscribers, including students and dentistry professionals. The opening table was composed by the professor coordinator of the Conference Professor Fernando Bastos, the honoree of the event, professor Alena Ribeiro, the coordinator of People Development, professor Luiza Ribeiro, the dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Education at Bahiana, professor Maria de Lourdes Freitas Gomes, the coordinator of the Dentistry course at Bahiana, professor Urbino Tunes, the dean of Research and Innovation, prof. Atson Fernandes, the director of the Dentistry course at UFBA and president of the Regional Council of Dentistry – CRO, Marcel Arriaga, and the JOBA student coordinator, Wellington Santos.

In the Auditorium of Pavilion III, to welcome the journey on April 16, the Symphonic Orchestra of Bahia – OSBA began the opening ceremony with a musical presentation. The two-day program included conferences, hands-on, work presentations and workshops, in addition to the III Meeting of Oral Rehabilitation, XII Meeting of Former Students and II Meeting of Pediatric Dentistry.

At the Dental Center, the activities carried out by the Academic League Bahiana of Education in Oral Health – LABESB were aimed at children and adolescents from 5 to 14 years old at the Municipal School of Pau da Lima. Actions such as Oral Hygiene Instruction, Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART), guidance on diets and playful activities, such as face painting, art murals, hopscotch and chair dancing, were developed with a view to promoting health. The Academic League Bahiana of Pediatric Dentistry – LABOP also mediated educational games, face painting, slime workshop, fishing and supervised brushing.

Wellington Santos saw, at the time, the possibility of expanding knowledge according to the demands of the students, since the moment was built by and for the students, noting that the preparation of the diversified grid was made possible thanks to the cooperation of the 40 members of the commission and the 17 professors involved: “I was also happy with the growth in the number of professionals who enrolled in JOBA. It is a quantity that tends to increase, diversifying the public”. Wellington also thanked everyone for participating. In his speech, Professor Fernando Bastos highlighted the support of the centers and other sectors of the institution so that it was possible to obtain the positive results of the event.

The Dean of Education points out that it is always a pleasure to be present at a highly representative event, such as the Dentistry Day: “The Dentistry course carries out this action together with the teachers, students and technical staff of the extension, but extrapolates the walls of Bahiana and it reaches not only students from other institutions, but also professionals and in significant numbers”.

For Luiza Ribeiro, the initiative represents the fostering of a spirit of solidarity: “We need people who look at science from the perspective of caring for the human being. Therefore, as current issues are explored, it is essential to rely on ethics”. The coordinator of People Development emphasizes that the 21 years of the Faculty of Dentistry, a course that is already recognized in several states and countries, “could not have received a better honor with the realization of this edition of JOBA”.

The president of the Regional Council of Dentistry – CRO reveals that he has participated in the Conference since the first edition, either as a listener or representing an entity, and he likes very much to honor the moment: “... I feel at home and I see that the students, teachers and employees do it with love.” The student Larissa Santana, who is studying the second year of Dentistry at the Bahiana, concludes that JOBA was an enriching experience: “... I participated in workshops and lectures very relevant to my area”.

"The feeling is one of gratitude for being the JOBA's name. It was a unique experience that brought me even closer to everyone and made me reflect on the process of professional construction and improvement that I experienced in the Dentistry course at Bahiana”, acknowledges Prof. Dr. Alena Ribeiro. On the second day, there was a video showing in dedication to Alena. The production had the participation of teachers, students and the teacher's own family members. In addition to the honoree, professor Urbino Tunes and student Wellington Santos were also presented by members of the organization.

Dentistry Day of Bahiana attracts a diverse audience

Event took place at Colégio Estadual Governador Roberto Santos 
Expand the vision of chemistry and biochemistry by exploring social, historical, scientific and behavioral areas. This was the purpose of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Fair promoted by the Biomedicine course at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública. The event took place on May 13, at Colégio Estadual Governador Roberto Santos, and the central theme was “Time Capsule”, an activity in which students from Bahiana built some booths from specific times on various academic subjects. 
 
The contents of the produced stands were: organic functions such as aldehydes and ketones, amines and amides, alcohols and carboxylic acids, ethers and esters, in addition to amino acids, proteins, carbohydrates, enzymes and lipids. 
 
Regarding the constitution of the event, the coordinator of the Biomedicine course, Geraldo Argolo, tells how everything is structured. “The Chemistry and Biochemistry Fair has been running for several editions, with wonderful creations by first semester Biomedicine students, led by chemistry and biochemistry professors”. 
 
the chemistry teacher at Bahiana Dr. Luís Sérgio Nunes, who was one of the organizers of the fair, explains why Colégio Estadual Governador Roberto Santos was chosen for the action. "Following the vision parameters and values ​​of the Bahiana Regarding social responsibility, we decided to include students from the state education system in the construction of new knowledge platforms, making a connection between secondary education and college. As the school is very close to the Bahiana and the director is very active in the area of ​​education, we were convinced that this choice would be the most appropriate, as it would facilitate the logistics for holding the event”.
