The Project Control of Verminosis in the State of Bahia, authored by the professor of the Biomedicine course, Artur Dias Lima, received an Honorable Mention, in the 2013 edition of Citizen Server Award, promoted by the Government of the State of Bahia. The award took place on October 22, at Teatro Castro Alves, during the Server Day celebrations.

The work of Prof. Artur competed with 256 other projects that stood out for innovative ideas in the work environment or volunteer actions that contribute to improving the quality of life in the community. Prof. Artur has already surveyed more than three thousand children, teenagers and the elderly. “All individuals, whose result was positive, were referred for treatment by the health secretariats and instructed on the prevention of parasitic diseases”, highlights the author.

According to him, the project aims to work on epidemiological aspects, diagnosis, treatment and control of these diseases. “Currently, most Brazilian children live in regions with high rates of infant mortality, with numerous diseases and nutritional deficiencies that are aggravated mainly in rural areas. In addition, the lack of investment in infrastructure, the absence of basic health, education, social assistance policies and the lack of drinking water itself further aggravate the lives of these individuals”, explains Artur.
