Innovate once again. This was the main point that the organization of the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition - MCC, promoted by the Organizing and Scientific Committees, had as their main objective in this 11th edition. Those who arrived at the Cabula Academic Unit on the morning of September 30th immediately noticed a different atmosphere from other years. Praça dos Borboleguins became a true education and health promotion fair, with several stands that housed Academic Leagues and School departments such as the Communication and Marketing Center (NUCOM), Educational Technology Center (CEDETE), Human Resources, in addition to of projects involving the various courses of the Bahiana, like the Angels of Nursing and Science with Acarajé and external units such as SESAB, the Sanitary Surveillance of the Cabula-Beirú District.

As in previous editions, welcoming the students brought something new: the musician Deni Bastos who, to the sound of his accordion, received the students in a very northeastern way “because the Bahiana is the Northeast”, as the coordinator of People Development, Prof. Luiza Ribeiro, said when opening the program of MCC 11, when she considered the possibility of, next year, the event receiving other institutions as guests so that their students can present papers.

Once again, the Mostra welcomed elementary and high school students as guests, as well as elderly people from social institutions. "THE Bahiana it always receives institutions for us to disseminate science, exchanging ideas, presenting what students and teachers produce and, thus, encouraging those who come from abroad to think about health and join as professionals in this area”, declared Prof.ª Luiza .

The awakening of new talents, the main objective of the event, was highlighted by the director of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Soliani. “Over these 11 years, we have developed several talents. THE Bahiana it is a very fertile land, where the seeds are thrown and produce many trees. It's a place where we can develop the most varied talents. That's because everyone gets on board, participates, takes care and makes it grow”.

The success of the 11th edition of the MCC was pointed out by the coordinator of the NAPP, Prof. Angélica Mendes, as “the result of a collective work between students, professors and coordinators who worked so hard to design the work and actions of social responsibility”.

This year, 324 works were presented between panels and oral presentations. Six short courses were held and the health fair had 23 stands that housed Academic Leagues, projects and departments of the School. Among the new stands, it is worth highlighting the one from the Junior Physiotherapy Company of Bahiana, the first in Bahia and the sixth in Brazil.

As in every year, the works registered in the preliminary period, from June 6th to July 17th, competed for two airline tickets to participate in scientific congresses. The winners of this draw at the 11th MCC were: Jaqueline Goes de Jesus, Biomedicine student with the work "In Silico Identification of Human Endogenous Retroviruses Using the LTR Region of HIV-1, HIV-2, SIV, XMRV, PTLV-1, PTLV-2 AND PTLV-3" (advisor: Luiz Carlos Alcântara) to Nayara Fonseca Vaz, medical student, with the work “Intravenous Laser in the Treatment of Primary Varicose Disease” (advisor: Marcelo Góes da Silva).

The works submitted in advance by students Jaqueline Góes de Jesus (Biomedicine) and Nayara Fonseca Vaz (Medicine) and their respective advisors won airline tickets.

Among the 260 guests, the Mostra received, on Friday, children from the district of Cabula, assisted by the actions of the Candeal Project, in the municipality of São Francisco do Conde, assisted by the FAPESB Biomedicine Project and the Conceição Macedo Institute, as well as teenagers of the Roberto Santos State School.

To receive children and teenagers, students from Bahiana underwent a brief training in Social Responsibility Monitoring, with teacher Sylvia Barreto (Psychology). In addition to being responsible for a group of teenagers, directing them to lectures and assistance in the mini ADAB and visits to the stands, the nursing student Renata da Silva Monte Santo Costa presented three works during the morning shift. “I thought the experience of presenting works was great. I intend to take these works to congresses in the area”, he plans.

“I liked everything, but what caught my attention the most was the way the students received us,” says 8-year-old Patrícia Santos, 15th grade high school student at Colégio Estadual Roberto Santos. For her colleague, Amanda Souza, 16, “what I liked most were the ophthalmology and gynecology lectures we saw at the mini ADAB, as I was able to ask questions and see things I didn't know,” she says.

Saturday
“Being here was really good. Because, despite not being doctors yet, the students provided very important information and knowledge is never too much”. This was the declaration of D. Zildete dos Santos, 63, a member of the elderly group from the Urban Social Center of the Northeast of Amaralina, who visited the Mostra on Saturday. She had just attended the lecture on the proper use of medication that was presented by the Academic League of Clinical Emergencies.

The group also attended lectures on falls and dizziness, presented by the Academic League of Neurosurgery of Bahia. Stroke, hypertension and diabetes were some of the topics presented by the Academic League of Applied Neurosciences.

The program continued at Praça dos Borboleguins, where the group continued to attend small lectures and visits such as measuring blood pressure and blood glucose, visual acuity, measuring respiratory capacity, among others.

According to the 6th year of Medicine student, Tiago Alves, dealing with elderly patients was not new. “We already have experience in dealing with different ages, as we develop activities during the course, in Public Health disciplines. So I don't feel like a stranger in contact with them. I am not seen as a doctor on the pedestal. I feel at their level, dealing as an equal”.

Very excited and happy, D. Vivi Honorato, 63, says: “This is the first time I've been here and I've seen, from the treatment we're having with the students, that they're really making an effort. They are not here to be. They know what they want and give us security”.
