Obstetricians and gynecologists, in addition to medical students, met last Friday night (Nov 05), at the Nazaré Academic Unit, when they participated in the opening lecture of the III Tocogynecology Symposium of Bahiana. “The main objective is to promote an update for professionals and expand the knowledge of students. Therefore, we have a large presence of physicians and academics from other institutions", said Dr. Margarida S. Matos, president of the Symposium and professor of Gynecology at the Medicine course at Bahiana. The opening was also attended by the deputy director of Bahiana, Dr. Enio Ribeiro Maynard Barreto.

Among the news this year, Dr. Margarida highlights the opening lecture by the president of the Association Bahiana of Medicine (ABM), Dr. Antônio Carlos Vieira Lopes. On the occasion, he spoke about the role of ABM both for the medical student and for the physician. With great relaxation and good humor, he presented the main points of the statute that refer to the benefits of academics and associated professionals, in addition to the advantages that the entity offers.

In addition to the opening lecture, Dr. Margarida S. Matos pointed out as novelties the lectures given on Saturday (06/11): “Conduct in neoplastic lesions of the uterine cervix”, which was given by Dr. Ilsa Prudente; “HPV. How and when to vaccinate”, which had as a speaker Dr. Nelson Vespa and “Embolization in uterine myoma. When to indicate”, presented by Dr. Alexandre Daytron, a guest from São Paulo.

The program also had the following themes: “The negative RH pregnant woman”, with Dr. James Cadidé; “Stress urinary incontinence. Diagnostic criteria and current therapy”, with Dr. Patrícia Nogueira; “DIP. Diagnostic and therapeutic criteria”, with Dr. Hilton Pina”; "Gestational diabetes. What you need to know”, which had as speakers Dr. Sheila Fernandes (Prenatal screening), Dr. Alina Feitosa (Assistance Conduct in Diabetes) and as coordinator Dr. Rone Peterson C. Oliveira.

In the afternoon shift on Saturday (06/11), the lecture “Current consensus on breast cancer screening” was given, with Dr. Cesar Machado and “Vulvar pruritus due to Herpes, Fungi, Cytolysis. In addition to the lectures, a round table “Infections in pregnancy” was held, covering topics such as Syphilis, HIV and HTVL, presented respectively by Dr. Paulo Rios, Dr. Nanci Silva and Dr. Alexandre Dumas. The table was coordinated by Dr. David Nunes.

The panel “Hypertensive disease in pregnancy” was also presented, coordinated by Dr. Alexandre Dumas and with the participation of Dr. Carlos Menezes (Prenatal screening) and Dr. João Paulo Q. Farias (Care conduct).

According to the president, this year registration for the event exceeded expectations. “I attribute this success to the theme and the success that the first and second symposiums had”. For the 5th year medical student at Bahiana, Ana Carolina Viana Matos, the symposium is a good opportunity to help choose the specialty to follow. “It's a way of expanding my knowledge, mainly because we can hear other opinions”, comments the student who is also a monitor in the Gynecology discipline.
