Introduce the different areas of Biomedicine to new students on the course and to students at Colégio Estadual Roberto Santos. This was one of the goals of the XNUMXst Biomedicine Fair of Bahiana which took place on the afternoon of July 26, at the Cabula Academic Unit. The event was coordinated by professors Adalardo Carneiro and Renata Roseghini and organized, during the 2015.1 semester, by students from the 1st and 6th semesters.

"The main objective was to motivate students who are already enrolled in the course to experience each area. So, the students who participated in the preparation – which lasted almost a semester – had a deeper contact and researched the areas, got in contact with biomedical professionals and produced the entire fair”, says Prof.ª Renata.

The 7th semester student of Biomedicine Laíse Brandão says that participating in the organization of the event was enriching. "I think we were able to exchange ideas that are important both for those who don't know anything about Biomedicine, as well as for those who are just starting out and don't know which area to pursue, it was a good opportunity".

Participating in the organization of the event, being only in the first semester of the course, was also special for student Julia Soledade, now in the second semester. "Before joining the Bahiana, I thought about several courses and found the Biomedicine course that is in the health area, it's something new. I wanted to try it and I'm really enjoying it. This fair helped me a lot to get to know Biomedicine's areas of activity", he says.

For Waldek Oliveira professor of Exact Sciences at Colégio Estadual Roberto Santos, initiatives such as the Biomedicine Fair are enlightening for high school students. “Events like this are of paramount importance, as they bring the reality of the world of work to high school students. They are still migrating and getting to know new experiences, this moment is very rich for them, it is the opportunity to see different fields of activity and perhaps break down some barriers they have in relation to certain professions. Being here also brings a comfort of realizing that the barriers are not that big and can be broken."

Proof of this was the report of student Maiara Santos Cerqueira. Still in the 3rd year of high school, she says that she is divided between Physiotherapy and Tourism, but being in Bahiana  and participating in the fair can change her mind. “Being here helps us learn new things, see what college is like and become interested in new subjects.”

Unlike Maiara, Marina Habib Pinheiro, a freshman in Biomedicine, was determined when she chose the course. "Since I was little, I've always wanted to study Medicine, but I had more affinity with the research part, with expertise. Then I discovered that Biomedicine is much more focused on this area than Medicine itself. So, I started researching and I fell in love with the course".

In addition to students who presented the areas of clinical analysis, cytopathological analysis, hemotherapy and bioimaging, the fair received biomedical professionals who presented, in practice, acupuncture and aesthetic activities.

For Professor Adalardo Carneiro, the event was a success. "I evaluate the event positively because the interaction between students of the 1st and 6th semesters (now 2nd and 7th) allows them to grow, perceive and understand the real importance of biomedical, because it is an area that people still need to become aware of of its meaning. I was very happy to participate and, from that, others will come because the success was so great".
