The program brought together professors and students of Biomedicine courses, through its Tutorial Education Program (PET), as well as students from other faculties with the aim of instructing them about advances in Gene Therapy and Biotechnology.

During the activity, a lecture was given by Adriano Costa de Alcântara, a biologist, Master in Veterinary Medicine and Doctor in Biotechnology at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), who explained the progress in gene therapy, biotechnology and knowledge that the biomedical professional and from other areas of health must have contact throughout their academic training.

“The Science with Acarajé event is interesting, as it is an opportunity for students to get to know the point of view of scientists, researchers and professors who are not those in their daily lives, adding value and knowledge so that they can take action throughout the career, finding the path to his future as a professional”, declared Adriano Costa.

The professor of the Biomedicine course and event coordinator, Sidney Santana, explains that the proposed theme was chosen for its relevance, mainly in the area of science applied exclusively to health. "Gene therapy and biotechnology have been growing more and more in the country and in the world, bringing new technologies that are extremely useful for clinical applications and for scientific research, thus being an interesting subject for those who seek the field of research in Biomedicine ”.

For Rodrigo Santos Brito, 6th semester of the Biomedicine course and member of PET, the program was enriching. "It was very significant for us students to know the techniques presented, as they will serve for professional practice in the future, with the insertion of the biomedic in Molecular Biomedicine, in Immunology and in research in general."
