Multiprofessional Residence ? possibilities and challenges for health education was the topic addressed.

“We try to bring general information about what is the multiprofessional residency, mainly focused on Biomedicine which, despite being a very new area, there are already some vacancies throughout the country. Our proposal today was to publicize this and make other students who are about to complete their graduation to enjoy the benefit of training a differentiated professional”, explains the professor of the Biomedicine course, Sidney Carlos, coordinator of Science with Acarajé, whose 14th edition took place on April 14, at the Cabula Academic Unit of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública.

The program brought together professors and students of Biomedicine courses through its Tutorial Education Program (PET) at Bahiana and students from other faculties with the aim of instructing them about the possibilities and challenges of multidisciplinary residency for health education. During the activity, a lecture was given by the physiotherapist, a specialist in multidisciplinary residency in family health and an undergraduate and graduate professor at the Bahiana, Antônio Mauricio da Silva who explained about multiprofessional residency, technical qualification, number of vacancies and other information that biomedical and other health professionals should be informed about why they choose the residency.

According to Prof. Antonio Mauricio, the multiprofessional residency is still a new topic since, for the medical area, it has been going on for many decades, but not for other health categories. Therefore, this program, which is guided by the principles and guidelines of the Unified Health System (SUS), was created precisely because of the need to intensely qualify this professional from other related areas of health.

“The first multiprofessional residencies appeared in 2005 and then programs for physiotherapy, biomedicine, dentistry and other areas were created, with the same format and proposal as the medical residencies. So, the residency is a postgraduate course and, at the same time that the individual qualifies thinking about a distinct insertion in the market, he, in two years of training, attends approximately 6.000 hours of postgraduate studies in service, because the resident is a trained professional, exercising their professional activity under the supervision of a tutor”, he explains.

For Brenda Colossi, a 2nd semester student of nutrition at the State University of Bahia (UNEB), the lecture clarified many questions related to residency. “I had a notion of what residency was, but not with this wealth of depth. I had no idea that I had a grant and I didn't know it was linked to the SUS. It opened my mind a lot and I already left here focused on my training and, for sure, I will enter a residency”, he says.

“It's a theme that involves several areas of health, there are many students who intend to pursue a career, especially in the hospital area, and through this lecture, they managed to get a better view of what residency is and their qualifications. I already knew about the residency in other areas of health, but not aimed at the biomedical professional”, explains Yasmin da Silva Luz, 3rd semester of Biomedicine and member of PET.

According to student João Souza, 2nd semester and member of PET Biomedicina, it was important to raise the subject as it opens up more space for other health courses that do not have a vision of what is, in fact, the multiprofessional residency. “The Biomedicine course, here in the Northeast, is relatively new and, in the lecture, it was identified that in the last year there were no new vacancies for residency in the biomedical area, in Bahia. So, the popularization of this subject, with Science with Acarajé, which is open to other institutions, is a way for students to know a little about the possibilities of postgraduate studies in the most diverse areas of health”, he concludes.
