Entitled Assessment of the intensity of respiratory symptoms in patients with Chronic Obstructive Disease (EPOC) using the EPOC Assessment Survey (CAT), the EPOC Clinical Survey (CCQ) and the Airway Survey 20 (AQ20 ), the work evaluated new ways to quantify symptoms and the quality of life of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

The research used standardized symptom and quality of life questionnaires that value the patient's point of view and their limiting symptoms (COPD Assessment Questionnaire – CAT; COPD Clinical Questionnaire – CCQ; and Airway Questionnaire 20-AQ20). The three questionnaires evaluated are being considered by the main groups of scientists around the world as useful tools to help with the care of patients with COPD, "but there are few studies that define their usefulness and ability to measure symptoms and quality of life in COPD" , said the teacher.

"The work was awarded for being a current and relevant topic, considered of excellent technical level (study design), as well as for having presented results that will help, in practice, the care of these patients, guiding a therapy focused on improving symptoms and quality of life," he explains. He also clarifies that the questionnaires are very easy to be applied and with good accuracy in detecting the reduction in the quality of life in the studied patients.

The teacher had the support of the Bahiana to participate in the Congress and with the collaboration of Prof. Fernanda Warken Rosa, from the Department of Life Sciences/Physiotherapy Course of the State University of Bahia (UNEB) and Prof. Antonio Carlos Moreira Lemos, from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). The study has already been submitted for publication in an Indexed Journal at PUBMED and is being analyzed for publication.

CONFIRA
