It was founded in 2007, when the monitors of the Pain Clinic discipline of the Physiotherapy course at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública decided to take legal steps to implement the idea that has evolved to meet all the social and academic requirements to which it is committed.

Since then, LABED has organized events and developed scientific projects with the aim of contributing to research and the community and, for this reason, it has been increasingly recognized by researchers in the field, such as Dr. Carlos Maurício de Castro Costa, formerly -president of the Brazilian Society for the Study of Pain (SBED) and advisor to the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), who affirmed, in one of the League's events, his support for the activities carried out by the same.

Currently, the League is linked to SBED and affiliated to Bahiana and it is important to emphasize that, as it is not for profit, all the funds raised are intended to fund events, research projects and bureaucratic expenses, as well as any other activity that may be organized in the area.
The promotion of health and the discussion on the subject are the main objectives of LABED, which, through them, aims to train more qualified professionals who are committed to the population's quality of life.

Components:
The experience with chronic pain can have serious repercussions for the psychological, social and economic well-being of patients. Pain prevention and immediate search for its cause are essential to avoid its chronicity. Likewise, the control of chronic pain does not only depend on the treatment of symptoms, but also on the identification and modification of conditions that favor its onset. These conditions refer to emotional, environmental and behavioral factors, characterizing the lifestyle of each individual. Therefore, the formation of an interdisciplinary team for its treatment is of great importance, in order to contemplate this scope, where the patient and professionals from different areas share the decisions and responsibility for its progress.

The Bahia Academic League for the Study of Pain (LABED) represents the union of students committed to deepening the study of pain and aims to provide students with the opportunity to develop research, assistance and extension activities.

Mission:
Bring together students and professionals, scientists and clinicians, politicians and university directors to encourage and support the study of pain.

Create opportunities for scientific, didactic, cultural and social work in the academic space, to add knowledge and encourage continuing education in pain.

Develop interdisciplinary assessment and management strategies to alleviate people's pain.
