Since Friday, October 1st, the Bahiana passou a integrar a Rede Metropolitana de Salvador – REMESSA, concebida pelo Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia e coordenada pela Rede Nacional de Pesquisa – RNTRNP, através do projeto Redes Comunitárias de Educação e Pesquisa – Redecomep que propõe a instalação de redes de alta velocidade para várias cidades do país, com foco nas áreas acadêmicas e de pesquisa. Este compartilhamento proporciona a possibilidade da instituição ser qualificada junto à RNP  para participar  do sistema de Trânsito Internet 2.

REMESSA is the result of a partnership between the Federal University of Bahia, the Municipality of Salvador and the State and Federal governments, and counts on the participation of higher education institutions, research centers and hospitals. It works via internet 2 and uses the latest technology with fiber optic cables and equipment that enable high-speed communication. Any structure necessary for the integration of the internal network of the Bahiana with REMESSA has already been implemented and installed in the three academic units of the School, since last week.

The technology ensures that participating institutions can share information more quickly and use advanced communication tools, enabling the sharing of scientific production and joint project development, both nationally and internationally. Possible applications include video conferencing and telephone (voice) traffic.

In addition to Salvador, the cities of Belém, Vitória, Manaus, Florianópolis, Brasília, Natal, São Paulo, Fortaleza, Macapá, Goiânia and Campina Grande are already part of the National Research Network, via projects similar to REMESSA.

According to the Postgraduate, Research and Extension coordinator at Bahiana, Prof.ª Káta Sá, o ingresso da Bahiana nesta Rede “nos coloca equivalentes às principais instituições de pesquisa do país, possibilitando a participação da Escola em trabalhos conjuntos com importantes instituições de todo o país”.
