Characteristics: the paineira is an arboreal, deciduous, heliophyte species. Its bulging trunk with spikes is the striking characteristic of the species, which has also become well known as “pot-bellied”.

Uses: it is extremely ornamental when in full bloom, with great potential for landscaping. The paineira has great ecological importance when used as a shelter for monkeys and parakeets. From this species, oil can still be extracted from the seeds, which can be used for food and industrial purposes.
