The month of November marks a series of dates related to health care. This month, the Purple November campaign is also carried out, whose date is celebrated on November 17 and which aims to raise society's awareness of prematurity, warning about the increase in the number of premature births, how to prevent them and inform about them. the consequences of early birth. Embracing this idea, the Physiotherapy course at Bahiana held a special action, on November 11, at the Teaching-Assistential Outpatient Clinic of Bahiana (ADAB) and in the clinics of the Bahiana Health, as the closing activity of the internship in pediatrics with students from the 6th and 8th semesters.

Considering this year's theme, "Zero Separation", the action consisted of awareness and subsequent training of disseminators on the importance of mother and father as full-time companions of premature infants, during their hospital stay in the NICU. "Studies show that keeping the mother in skin-to-skin contact (kangaroo method) helps to minimize the consequences of painful stimuli in addition to saving these babies' energy, which leads to weight gain and better overall development", explains the teacher and activity coordinator, Cristina Cardoso. 

The action involved lectures, distribution of booklets and demonstration of informative and illustrative posters. According to Cristina Cardoso, the objective was to demonstrate that as NICU physiotherapists, students can provide more humanized care to the baby, can be facilitators to encourage touch and position stable children (still on ventilatory support) in the lap of mothers and fathers and even in the kangaroo (skin-to-skin contact). "This action, through feeling the skin, strengthens the emotional bond between baby and family, in addition to all the gains for global development", warns the teacher.
