A study carried out by Bahiana, em parceria com o Hospital Roberto Santos – HGRS e a Universidade do Estado da Bahia – UNEB, ganhou destaque internacional ao ser publicado pela renomada revista científica Plos One, publicação de acesso livre e de grande impacto na área da ciência e medicina. A pesquisa foi coordenada pela professora Élen Beatriz Pinto, docente dos Programas de Pós-Graduação Stricto Sensu de Medicina e Saúde Humana e Mestrado em Tecnologias em Saúde da Bahiana.

Entitled “Investigating Predictors of Community Integration in Individuals After Stroke in a Residential Setting: A Longitutinal Study”, the research was carried out at the Cerebral Vascular Accident Unit of Hospital Geral Roberto Santos (UAVC-HGRS), in Salvador, and published in the scientific journal , in the month of June. The work was developed in partnership with the Motor Behavior and Neurofunctional Rehabilitation Research Group of Bahiana and with the HGRS, being the product of the Master in Technologies and Health of the Bahiana physiotherapist Isabela Matos and speech therapist Adriana Fernandes, supervised by teacher Élen Beatriz Pinto. Neurologists Pedro Antônio de Jesus, who is the coordinator of the UAVC-HGRS, and Dr. Jamary Oliveira Filho also participated in the study.

“O AVC é uma das principais causas de morte e incapacidades no Brasil e no mundo. Além disso, apesar dos avanços nos tratamentos, sabe-se que parte significativa dos sobreviventes apresenta limitações no desempenho funcional e na participação social. Este artigo é o primeiro estudo brasileiro a investigar a reintegração na comunidade em uma coorte de sobreviventes do AVC”, explica a professora Élen Beatriz. A pesquisadora conta que todas as avaliações do estudo foram feitas no contexto da visita domiciliar, ou seja, no ambiente em que os indivíduos interagem, com amostra representativa de todos os Distritos Sanitários de Salvador. “É importante destacar ainda o apoio da Universidade do Estado da Bahia, especialmente, por meio da Dra. Helena Fraga Maia, pesquisadora com expertise em estudos na área de saúde coletiva”.

For Professor Élen Beatriz Pinto, the research was very significant, as it broadened the perspective of study and brought researchers closer to the reality of those involved, which helped in understanding the aspects that cause the reduction of social interactions and compromise the reintegration of individuals into the community. . “This knowledge favors the systematization of rehabilitation programs and helps to define specific conducts”, he concludes.
