The work of medical students, "Vesicointestinal Dysfunction between mothers and children: a population-based study", was guided by prof. Ubirajara Barroso de Oliveira Júnior and was part of the research carried out by the Center for Voiding Disorders in Children (CEDIMI), which operates at the Medical Center Bahiana. Rebeca Ribeiro tells how it felt to win the award: “It was an incredible experience, despite all the difficulties that may arise during the course of a survey. It took a lot of work and dedication on the part of me and Vitória's”, he says.

On the importance of the research carried out, Rebeca Ribeiro shared how the studied theme impacts on society: “Childhood Voiding Disorders are very unknown in clinical practice, despite being extremely common. Most of us don't know how much they can affect the development of these children and teenagers who suffer from the problem and the shame they feel. Studying, then, the family association allows us to investigate possible causes for the appearance of these disorders; if there is a genetic load or if the environment in which the child lives is the most relevant for the emergence of these dysfunctions”, he concludes.
