A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, through Bahiana Health, has been offering care to people with chronic non-communicable diseases, in a comprehensive and humanized way, through the Expanded Nursing Clinic. The space focuses on care teaching, aiming to provide comprehensive assistance to citizens through Nursing consultations, based on the principles of the Unified Health System – SUS. The service also functions as a practice field for students of the Supervised Curricular Internship in Nursing.

The clinic assists people aged 18 and over with consultations that are premised on comprehensive care, valuing listening, guaranteeing autonomy and respect for the uniqueness of each citizen, the complexity of the health-disease process, the bond and user monitoring. The diagnosis is based on the basic human needs affected. "The construction of the Nursing care plan and/or its implementation is agreed with the user, taking into account risk factors, adherence and understanding of drug treatment, signs and symptoms, potential complications and indication of non-drug treatments", explains the service coordinator and professor of the Nursing course, Me Aidê Nunes da Silva.

The clinic also works in health education, carrying out activities in the waiting room, with current and relevant topics, in order to raise awareness and guide the population towards health promotion and improving their lifestyle. "The teaching team of the Expanded Nursing Clinic recognizes the complexity of the health-disease process, considering integrated care in a multidisciplinary team, permanent articulation, referral and counter-referral to improve the quality of life of nursing home users. Bahiana Health", points out Aidê Nunes. Nursing consultations are held for adults, from Monday to Friday, from 13pm to 17pm, at the Outpatient Clinic of the Community of Bahiana Health, and, on Wednesdays, for children and teenagers up to 15 years old. The clinic is also integrated into the reference outpatient clinic for trans people.
