“Sleep Quality and Health Professionals.” This was the theme of the activity coordinated by professor Dr. Cristina Salles, professor of the Master's and Doctorate course in Medicine and Human Health and leader of the International Center of Clinical Sleep Medicine and Research research group, which took place at the Campus Brotas da Bahiana, last Friday, March 15th. The action was part of Sleep Week 2024, which took place in several Brazilian cities, from March 11 to 17, with the focus "Opportunity to sleep for all for global health". The initiative of the Brazilian Sleep Association aims to provide the population with qualified information, news and the latest research on sleep.
Na Bahiana, the activity involved students, employees and health professionals, highlighting the relationship between sleep quality and well-being. “The focus of the activity was to raise awareness among academics and employees of the Bahiana regarding the care we should take regarding Sleep Hygiene”, explains Dr. Cristina Salles. Throughout the program, a theatrical presentation was held, staged by medical students, interaction with the audience and, afterwards, there was time for an explanation regarding Sleep Disorders and their consequences, such as, for example, compromising academic performance. and labor.
The professor also highlights the importance of “raising awareness that sleep disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea, can be associated with acute myocardial infarction, for example. We also explain that sleep doctors diagnose and treat these disorders. This year, the Brazilian Sleep Association made available the sleep guide, with research data related to the topic and guidelines for improving sleep quality.
