A few meters from the Campus Brotas, the General Coordinator is located in a central neighborhood of the city. The building houses the institution's Rectory, as well as our Management and Quality Center (NGQ) and our Planning Advisory Board (ASPLAN).&nbsp; In the Coordination's gardens, there is a bronze statue of the late Professor Humberto de Castro Lima, former general coordinator of the FBDC. It is an environment surrounded by nature and historical landmarks of our academic community. Here, our students can contact the Institutional Academic Relationship and Internationalization Center (REAI) and the Research Ethics Committee (CEP). The General Coordination also includes the Distance Learning Nucleus (NEAD), the Educational Technologies Development Center (CEDETE), the Communication and Marketing Nucleus (NUCOM), the Evaluation Committee (CPA) and the Department of Infrastructure (DEPIN).
 In this building are also located the Commercial and People Development, Administrative and Financial, Legal, Communication and Marketing, Institutional Development and Social Impact Business coordinations.

With three pavilions and a modern structure, this campus is located in a central neighborhood of the Bahian capital. Are 10 laboratories, 21 theatres, of class e 1 auditorium to provide the ideal environment for academic and social development. Also on Campus Brotas, students, teachers, employees and the external public have access to a complete library with comfortable facilities and an up-to-date collection. Surrounded by a vast green area, this campus has 20 laboratories, 30 classrooms e 3 auditoriums. The library is also open to the outside community, with comfortable spaces for reading, studying and socializing. The environment has a modern and complete infrastructure, ample parking and social center with cafeteria. The Neuroscience Research Group of Bahiana attended the 5th edition of the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Academy, an international scientific event held in May in São Paulo. The event annually brings together spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) researchers to promote the dissemination of studies and the exchange of scientific knowledge.
the group of Bahiana was represented by its leader, professor of medicine Marcela Câmara Costa, who, on the occasion, presented the theme “Evolution of SMA phenotypes, what are we missing?” In her approach, the researcher from Bahiana discussed phenotype change and the limitations of current functional scales. The EK2 scale was then presented as a complementary and sensitive scale for assessing multiple domains of non-ambulatory patients. The scale was validated in the Professional Master's Program in Health Technologies at Bahiana by academic Juliana Pimentel. The dissertation “Translation, cross-cultural adaptation and validation into Brazilian Portuguese of the Egen Klassifikation scale version 2 (EK2) in patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Spinal Muscular Atrophy” was supervised by Professor Marcela Câmara Costa.

The Neuromuscular Diseases Outpatient Clinic and the C-HTLV Outpatient Clinic, which operate within the Neuroscience Center of Bahiana Health, were authorized by the Ministry of Health (MS) as a Specialized Care Service for Rare Diseases (SAEDR). From now on, the units are recognized for the treatment of some rare diseases of genetic origin (hereditary amyloidosis, spinal muscular atrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, muscular dystrophies) and of non-genetic origin (myasthenia gravis and myelopathy associated with HTLV-1).
By being accredited by the Ministry of Health as a specialized unit, the service becomes part of a coordinated national network, with access to care provided by a multidisciplinary and specialized team. This accreditation enables the expansion of the multidisciplinary team and the incorporation of diagnostic technologies for rare diseases of genetic origin.
In addition to improving clinical outcomes and reducing the long and difficult journey to access early diagnosis and specialized treatment, SAEDR goes beyond the implementation of a public health policy, placing the SUS at the service of equity, science and life, offering dignity, autonomy and hope to those who, for a long time, were invisible in the health system.&nbsp;

Qualification was granted by the Ministry of Health.

A School Bahiana was present at Bahia Brain Week 2025, an event that brought together prominent health and education institutions in Salvador, such as SENAI CIMATEC, UFBA, UNEB, Cepred, UCSal and the Bahia School of Public Health (ESPBA). Brain Awareness Week, promoted globally by the Dana Foundation and in Brazil by SBNeC, sought to raise awareness about neuroscience and its relevance to society, with a focus on brain health and neurological disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder and HTLV-1-associated myelopathy, which are endemic in the region. Highlight for the opening event (10/03), in the ESPBA Auditorium, with lectures by Professor Juliana Barbosa Goulardins, on Neuroimmunomodulation and HTLV, and by Professor Aidê Nunes, on CHTLV/Neurosciences, integrated care and social mobilization, with the presentation of the fashion show of customized clothes by stylist Iêda Barbosa, in partnership with the HTLVida Association, linked to Expo Ressignificarte, and artistic exhibition of the Nursing Extension Program Cuidar Faz Bem. On 13/03, the Bahiana carried out an action for its community, with a lecture by Professor Juliana on Neuroscience and Society, involving students from CAFIS and the Permanecer SUS Program. The event reinforced the importance of raising awareness about brain health, especially in Salvador, where neurological diseases and conditions such as HTLV-1 significantly impact the population. Collaboration between academic, medical and government institutions was essential to promote community engagement and access to specialized care.

Held in partnership with PTC – Indústria Farmacêutica, the preceptorship aimed to train neurologists, neurophysiologists and general practitioners who work in the care of patients with familial amyloid polyneuropathy (ATTRv), addressing aspects of diagnosis, treatment management and disease progression in patients with ATTRv amyloidosis. On the occasion, the Manual of Multidisciplinary Conduct for Patients with Amyloidosis, also prepared by the Neuroscience Research Group, was also presented. 10 neurologists from cities in Bahia and other states in the Northeast participated in the event. The preceptorship took place through a theoretical-practical immersion, in which the clinical experiences of the team at the Ambulatory of Neuromuscular Diseases of the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública with practical evaluation of real clinical cases and performance of electroneuromyography in patients with ATTRv amyloidosis.

Neuroscience Research Group holds preceptorship for neurologist

A School Bahiana of Medicine and Public Health, together with the Network of Assistance and Research Centers in Neuromodulation (Rede NAPeN), has just launched the scientific journal Brain Imaging and Stimulation (BIS), integrating the portal <a style="color: #007bff; text-decoration: underline;" href="https://www5.bahiana.edu.br/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BAHIANA Journals</a>, an innovative initiative in the Brazilian and world scientific scenario. The journal is focused on specific studies on brain imaging and stimulation, including various methods of studying brain activity, such as structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging, near-infrared spectroscopy, positron emission tomography, electroencephalography and many others, in addition to invasive and non-invasive neuromodulation. According to Dr. Kátia Nunes Sá, co-editor of the journal alongside Dr. Abrahão Fontes Baptista, "It is the third journal in the world in the area of ​​brain neuromodulation, alongside Brain Stimulation e da Neuromodulation: Technology at the Neural Interface da International Neuromodulation Society (INS). The publication will be entirely in English and is aimed at an audience interested in a deep understanding of the human brain and ways to enhance it."&nbsp; In addition to publishing scientific articles, another differential of the journal will be the publication of content in video and infographic formats. "THE Brain Imaging and Stimulation (BIS) applies to an interdisciplinary science by nature, which is neuroscience. According to the editor of BIS Dr. Abrahão Fontes Baptista, the Bahiana comes out, once again, ahead when it comes to innovative ideas in health: "The Bahiana has a line of research in neurosciences in its Stricto Sensu Graduate Program and collaborates with other reference centers in neurosciences in Brazil. Researchers from these institutions realized the need for a journal that could cover the areas of neuroimaging and neuromodulation. In view of the gap identified in the theme, the desire of the group of researchers from our master's and doctoral program was reconciled with the neurosciences center of Bahiana Health and the Network NAPeN, which involves several Brazilian universities, such as the Federal University of ABC, the University of São Paulo and the Federal University of Pernambuco.
