"The August of the Arts is, first and foremost, an act of resistance." Bahiana This movement reminds us how important it is to engage with all forms of expression: music, dance, crafts, and others. Education isn't just about health, but also about daily life. We have fun, relax, and I think it's a very conscious action by the Psychopedagogical Care Center (NAPP), which pays attention to what fosters a positive learning environment. The August of the Arts is the very essence of... Bahiana"That's how the Director of Artistic and Cultural Development of..." BahianaProfessor Luiza Ribeiro defines the August of the Arts, which this year took place on August 18th at the Cabula Campus and on August 25th at the Campus BrotasThe diverse program included musical performances and artistic and cultural booths, spaces where students, teachers, and staff could freely express their artistic productions and experiences.
For Manuela Costa Neiva, a second-semester Psychology student, the experience is innovative: “I thought it would just be college, just studying, and having an event like this is great. I really like art. I believe that events like Agosto das Artes (August of the Arts) provide a 'break' from the anxiety we feel because of assignments, exams, and studying. This takes a weight off our shoulders.” Manuela participated in the event performing two songs from “Epic: The Musical,” a work inspired by Homer's “Odyssey.” According to Ruth Aragão, pedagogical advisor at NAPP, initiatives of BahianaEvents like the August Arts Festival aim precisely to promote mental health within the institution. “This is fundamental for the students because it breaks the routine, makes them realize that being here isn't just about focusing on academic activities, studying and dealing with obligations, pressures, and demands, but about being able to experience the institution in a different way. This promotes mental health, allows students to integrate, value the relationships between them, the relationship with the teachers, and perceive the teachers in another role—that, in addition to being a teacher, this person also paints, also does collage work, also sings.”
In this edition, the event also featured the launch of the poetry book "Para ver de brincadeira" (To See as a Joke), by Gabriel Nabuco, a 10th-semester Psychology student. He recounts that, when he was still a high school student, he was recommended to... Bahiana Precisely because it is an institution that values and promotes artistic languages within its spaces. Bahiana "He makes a point of incorporating art, in some way, into his events. The spaces are organized so that art can be showcased," says Gabriel, who participates in the event's organization and has been working as a poet since his first semester at the institution. He recounts that his book was written over the course of his five years of study and that one of the curricular components awakened him to the importance of childhood as a language. "I remember that the subject of toy makers, in the third semester of the course, was very important, because I could be in contact with children and write about this 'seeing through play,' this eye of poetry that is the child's gaze."
