The Dentistry course at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública On November 13th, the institution held a remote symposium entitled "The Consumption of Psychoactive Substances in the Field of Bioethics – Does your training equip you to care for people who use drugs?". The activity, linked to the Collective Health III course, was coordinated by professors Marlene Barreto Santos Miranda and Ricardo Araújo Silva, with student support and leadership in organizing and moderating the discussions. The meeting aimed to stimulate critical reflection on the role of healthcare professionals in addressing the ethical and social issues surrounding the use of psychoactive substances.

During the meeting, experts from different fields contributed reflections on the ethical, legal, and clinical dimensions involved in the topic. Judge Gerivaldo Alves Neiva presented an analysis of the legal obstacles to drug decriminalization, while psychologist Ed Carlos Faria highlighted the challenges of harm reduction public policies in the context of the so-called "war on drugs."

The program also included the participation of dental surgeon Endy Lacet, president of the Brazilian Society of Cannabinoid Dentistry (SBOCAN), who addressed the therapeutic use of cannabidiol in dentistry, and mental health manager Michel de Castro Marques, who emphasized the importance of accessible and prejudice-free language to broaden the debate on harm reduction.
