The opening panel, “Science and Life: reflections on the role of science in the construction of life and society,” was led by Professor Dr. João Carlos Salles, former rector of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), a partner institution in several projects and research. Salles reflected on the importance of integrating sensitivity and technique in scientific production. “Sometimes, science, incredibly, cannot address the problems of life, and therefore we need institutions to combine interdisciplinary knowledge so that technology does not become detrimental to life,” he argued.
