MCC celebrates 25 years reinforcing ethics and equity in health education.

The debate highlighted the urgent need to train professionals who are sensitive to inequalities and social diversity.

The 25th Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana (MCC) celebrated its 24th anniversary last Friday (25) with a morning dedicated to reflecting on the theme “Taking care of myself is taking care of the world: how to promote care with equity for health workers and students”. Held at the Cabula Campus, the Exhibition brought together students, teachers and guests in a meeting marked by listening and dialogue. The opening ceremony included a welcome from the rector, Prof. Maria Luisa Soliani, and the participation of professors Carolina Pedroza and Lavínia Boaventura, coordinators of the Exhibition. The event also paid tribute to the centenary of the doctor and professor Humberto Castro Lima. Representing the honoree, the vice-rector Humberto Castro Lima Filho highlighted the ethical and human commitment that the Bahiana He inspires: "As a white man, I found open doors and I have an obligation to transform reality so that it is more just, has more beauty and more truth."

At the opening conference, psychologist and researcher Cida Bento, author of the book "The Pact of Whiteness," challenged the audience by stating that caring for students and healthcare professionals also requires transforming the institution itself: "There is no progress without concrete measures, policies, and plans that make the environment more equitable." A national reference in occupational health and ethnic-racial issues, the guest also highlighted the importance of training professionals who are aware of the social and racial diversity in the city where they work. "It is necessary to prepare healthcare professionals to deal with all people, with diverse realities and bodies, and this is part of the ethical oath of those who care."

The theme of the MCC was reflected in concrete experiences in the speech of Viviane Pereira, representative of the Salvador Homeless Population Movement (MPRS). “Being here inside a university is very important. We need to occupy these spaces and help in the training of professionals who will look at us with more respect and care,” she stated. It is also about confronting the inequities that permeate our country.”
