Bahiana celebrates achievement of international certification in stomatherapy

The Lato Sensu Postgraduate Program of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública held, last Friday, September 19, the official ceremony of awarding the international certification of the World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET) to the students of the first three classes of the Specialization in Nursing in Stomatherapy.

The meeting, which was led by the Pro-Rector of Undergraduate and Lato Sensu Graduate Education at Bahiana, Dr. Maria de Lourdes Freitas Gomes, took place in a hybrid format, being held in person in room 306 of Pavilion III, on Campus Brotas and via an online session on Teams, bringing together students, faculty, and representatives from the field. The ceremony followed the guidelines of the Brazilian Association of Stomatherapy (SOBEST), responsible for awarding certificates in Brazil. "The international WCET certification represents an important recognition of the quality of our training and reinforces the commitment of Bahiana with academic excellence. This advancement broadens the perspectives of our specialists and strengthens the institution's integration into global networks of knowledge and healthcare," stated the provost.

For the manager of the Institutional Relationship and Internationalization Center (REAI) of BahianaAccording to Antonieta Araújo, the WCET certification demonstrates the strength of the institution's internationalization policy. "Before, internationalization was about exchanges. Today, it's much more than that. We have a portal where knowledge and expertise can be exchanged. We have an international board that accredits specialist certificates, which means there's a global protocol in place and we're training people within it. So, internationalization allows us to step outside our confines and engage with colleagues from various countries on the same platform, and this knowledge has reached this field of stomatherapy," stated Araújo.
