On September 20th, the Cabula Campus hosted the XXIII Scientific and Technological Initiation Conference of the Bahiana, which brought together faculty, advisors, and high school and undergraduate students. At the opening, the Provost of Research, Innovation, and Stricto Sensu Graduate Studies, Dr. Atson Fernandes, highlighted the 186 ongoing projects, 55 of which are voluntary. The Scientific Initiation Program Bahiana has 131 scholarships from the institution itself and from partners such as Fundação Maria Emília, FAPESB, Fiocruz, CNPq, and Rede D'Or. The opening panel featured Dr. Ana Marice Ladeia, Dr. Maria de Lourdes Gomes, Dr. Diego Menezes, and Dr. Atson himself. The program included a keynote panel featuring the coordinator of the Master's and Doctoral Program in Medicine and Human Health, Dr. Ana Marice Ladeia; the Provost of Undergraduate and Lato Sensu Graduate Education, Dr. Maria de Lourdes Gomes; and the Superintendent of Institutional Relations. Bahiana, on the occasion representing the CNPq administrative council, Dr. Diego Menezes, in addition to Dr. Atson Fernandes.

The table was followed by a debate with students who graduated from scientific initiation programs, including Dr. Diego Menezes and former students of Bahiana Alice Oliveira, a Psychology graduate, where she currently teaches, and Alice Didier, a Medicine graduate. For this opportunity, the three shared their experiences and emphasized the importance of scientific initiation in their lives, both academically and professionally. According to Dr. Marilda Castelar, a Psychology professor and scientific initiation project advisor, the program enables student integration and encourages them to produce research. "When we do this integration, we see the diversity of topics that... Bahiana is researching. And the importance of this for your education is incredible, because you'll improve your qualifications. All students who undertake research initiation have no difficulty writing their final project," says Castelar.

Throughout the morning, 79 posters and 181 oral presentations were presented. Psychology student Ana Clara Lessa Ribeiro presented a poster on the use of psychoanalysis in mental health within the MST, a result of her participation in a research group in the Psychology, Diversity, and Health field. She explains that her introduction to scientific initiation came through her participation in a research group. Ana Luiza Rêgo Dias, a 9th-semester Physical Education student, has been part of a research group since her second semester and entered the scientific initiation program with three submitted articles and six published abstracts. "The initiation program is allowing us to work with the results of this research on the preparation and physical performance profile of Brazilian sailing athletes, in order to develop a national protocol, which does not yet exist," she explains.
