"The future of sport and physical activity culture in the era of climate change." With this theme, the 10th Forum on Physical Activity, Quality of Life, and Health Promotion was held on September 13th at the Cabula Campus. Coordinated by professors Anderson Leandro Peres Campos and Clarcson Plácido Conceição dos Santos, who is also the coordinator of the Physical Education program at Bahiana, the event brought together experts, students, and health professionals to discuss the impacts of environmental changes on exercise and health promotion. The forum offered lectures and panel discussions that covered topics ranging from sedentary lifestyles and chronic diseases to evidence-based strategies for prescribing physical exercise. The hands-on workshops were a key differentiator, allowing participants to apply scientific concepts to real-world situations.
"The choice of the theme was based on what we are currently experiencing as a society. The issue of climate health, planetary change, and how this has impacted people's lives caught our attention, including the adoption of exercise and decision-making regarding whether or not to remain physically active. Therefore, we brought in professionals who work and conduct research in this field to elucidate what the future holds for humanity in terms of behavioral change mediated by climate change. This is the focus of our event, which also celebrates the 10th anniversary of our course," explained Dr. Clarcson Plácido.
For Geovana Júlia Rosário de Paula Santos, a 1st semester Physical Education student at Bahiana, the choice of theme was excellent because it deals with a current and urgent issue: "We are experiencing this climate, lifestyle, social, and environmental change. So we need to increasingly have this dialogue and look at public policies: what can we do with our actions in relation to this aspect? As Physical Education professionals, we need to discuss, study, and research to see how we can contribute to improving our quality of life and that of the people who will come in the future." The event also honored professionals who stand out in the field, transforming lives and inspiring generations through Physical Education, with the Prof. Hélio Campos Award, given to Physical Education professional Prof. Desiree D'alia and to the professor of Bahiana Clarcson Placido.
