A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública hosted the 11th Brazilian Congress of Physical Therapy Education, held by the Brazilian Association of Physical Therapy Education (ABENFISIO), from September 10 to 12, 2025, at the Cabula Campus. With the theme "Physiotherapist Training for the Production of Health and Equity," the congress brought together faculty, researchers, students, and professionals from across the country to discuss pedagogical innovations, public policies, and strategies for strengthening physical therapy education. The event's opening was attended by national representatives from the Federal Council of Physical Therapy (COFFITO), ABENFISIO, the Regional Council of Physical Therapy (CREFITO), and the coordinator of the Physical Therapy course at Bahiana, Dr. Luciana Bilitário, and the Pro-Rector of Extension of Bahiana, Dr. Carolina Pedroza.
Professors of the Physiotherapy course at Bahiana They led key discussions during the program, including Dr. Luciana Bilitário, the course coordinator, who participated in the panel "What are the Competencies for Management and Innovation in the Training of the Physiotherapist of the Future?", offering reflections on competency-based management and teaching innovation. Professor Dr. Cristiane Dias also moderated the panel, leading discussions on the challenges of healthcare training. Dr. Elen Beatriz Pinto participated in the panel "Training to Transform – Qualification Strategies in Physiotherapy Training," addressing the topic "Strengthening professional identity focused on understanding human movement and clinical reasoning in physiotherapy."
On the occasion, Professor Luciana Bilitário, teaching representative of ABENFISIO Bahia Section, highlighted the importance of hosting the congress in Bahiana and the active participation of professionals in the association's activities. "People need to be present in the association's spaces, where we have a voice and can take a stand, where we listen to each other, share our challenges and achievements, and where we can fight for quality education in Physical Therapy," she stated. During the opening session, the Pro-Rector of Extension at Bahiana, Dr. Carolina Pedroza, representing the rector of BahianaDr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani reinforced the institution's commitment to training professionals for the Unified Health System (SUS) and highlighted curricular outreach as a key strategy for connecting future health professionals with their communities. "The curriculum needs to be constantly rethought and rethought because it needs to speak to society. This is our role as health professionals," she concluded.
