On September 17th, when World Patient Safety Day is celebrated, the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, through the Patient Safety Center (NSP) of Bahiana Health, reinforces its commitment to promoting safe, humane and patient-centered care.

Established by the World Health Organization (WHO), World Patient Safety Day seeks to mobilize healthcare professionals, policymakers, and society as a whole to reduce risks and prevent care failures. The WHO estimates that approximately 2,6 million people die every year due to preventable healthcare failures. In 2025, the international campaign draws attention to pediatric and neonatal care, highlighting the vulnerability of newborns and children to adverse events.

Na Bahiana Health, the NSP acts as a link between different sectors of the institution, promoting the identification and prevention of risks that could cause harm to patients; developing and implementing safety protocols; and monitoring adverse events in order to propose continuous improvements. Furthermore, the sector also trains multidisciplinary teams in safe practices, fostering a culture of safety across all sectors. For Araceli Moreira, technical manager of Nursing at Bahiana Health, the center, translates, in practice, the institution's commitment to quality care. "Our goal is to ensure that each patient receives safe, humane care that focuses on their needs. Patient safety is not just a protocol, but a value that guides all our work," he states.
