From July 2025, the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública will implement a historic change in its people management policy: reducing the weekly workload of its employees from 44 to 40 hours, meaning it will operate on a 5x2 basis, without a salary reduction. This measure consolidates the company's pioneering Bahiana in the education and health sector and reinforces the institution's commitment to well-being, human development and quality of life in the workplace.
According to Mariana Soliani, Administrative Director of Bahiana, with this new policy, the Bahiana hopes to increase employee satisfaction and engagement, promote work-life balance, and enhance the quality of services offered. "We decided to adopt the 5x2 schedule, prioritizing employee well-being and quality of life. We want them to be able to combine work with their personal lives. And we agree that this 6x1 schedule is, in fact, very demanding. People have no time for themselves and their families. Furthermore, there is a great concern about mental health today," states Soliani, emphasizing that this is also consistent with the new NR1 legislation, which now recognizes mental health issues as an occupational disease.
The employee appreciation policies established by Bahiana are designed to promote development, health, well-being, and psychological safety within the institution. Among the strong points, Mariana Soliani highlights a benefits package that offers a series of flexibilities that support families—extended maternity/paternity leave, among others, reduced working hours for mothers with children up to 1 year old, monthly time off for medical care for minor children and elderly parents, financial guidance, and other benefits that provide the necessary support for our employees when they need it most. Regarding employee health care, there is also the program Bahiana of the Family, which provides personalized and multidisciplinary health monitoring, focusing on primary care, prevention and comprehensive care for people.
