The Dentistry course at Bahiana held the 7th edition of the Symposium on Healthcare for the LGBTQIAPN+ Population on June 5th, which addressed the question "Does your training enable you to care for people with their unique needs?" Broadcast via Teams, the event took place remotely and began with a talk by coordinators Marlene Barreto Santos and Ricardo Araújo da Silva, course faculty.
The VII Symposium's main objective is to discuss contemporary issues related to the health of the LGBTQIAPN+ population, promoting an understanding of the individual as a biopsychosocial being and integrating knowledge from various health areas to develop prevention and care strategies. The first lecture was given by professor and researcher Acácia Mayra, who addressed the topic "The Right to Health of the LGBTQIAPN+ Population: What Do We Have and How Can We Guarantee It?" The lecture was followed by the psychologist, who graduated from Bahiana, the school where she founded the Academic League of Sexuality and Gender (LASG), Raissa Lé, presented the lecture “The relevance of lesbian thought in health curricula”.
“Transgender health from the user’s perspective and access” was the topic of trans activist João Hugo’s speech. He is also a former student at Bahiana Arthur Lima delivered his lecture “Racial Interceptionality in Promoting Comprehensive Health for the LGBTQIAPN+ Population.” The Medicine professor at Bahiana and coordinator of the Transgender Persons Outpatient Clinic Bahiana Health, Márcia Sampaio, spoke about “Health care for trans people: empathetic practices.” Finally, the Psychology professor at Bahiana, Carle Porcino, closed the symposium with the lecture “Praxis in Psychology at the Outpatient Clinic for Transgender People at Bahiana".
