A true celebration in favor of Science and Dentistry. This was the 22nd Dental Conference of Bahiana (JOBA), held on May 24th and 25th, at the Cabula Campus, bringing together more than 700 people, including students, professors, researchers and guests. The 2025 edition received around 500 academic papers from students at Bahiana and other educational institutions. The opening night featured a special tribute to the centenary of Prof. Dr. Humberto de Castro Lima, the name given to this edition of the Jornada (Joba's Name), whose academic and professional life story was narrated in the language of cordel. On the occasion, the former coordinator of the Dentistry course at Bahiana, Prof. Urbino Tunes, whose name now gives the institution's Dental Center its name. This year, JOBA also covered the 5th May of PICS, with a series of activities of Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health, offering assistance to the participants of the day.
Over the course of two days, students, professionals and professors participated in an intense program that included conferences, hands-on sessions, round tables and lectures on topics in dentistry. Júlia Meireles, a 9th semester Dentistry student at Bahiana, emphasizes the importance of participating as a student coordinator in the journey towards her professional training. "A position like that of student coordinator is something that you will certainly take with you not only to your professional life, but also to your academic life because we can understand that, behind such a large process, there is a whole construction done little by little and that working as a group and calmly is the way to have the best response, which is such a large and successful journey", declared the student, highlighting that organizing the large number of students on the committee was an initial barrier that was soon overcome.
According to Professor Mônica Dourado, teaching coordinator of the 22nd JOBA, the event requires constant updating, as it grows each year. "Today, we have more practical activities, live demonstrations and, this year, we incorporated the Maio das PICS, which is achieving great success, and integrating this into JOBA was a huge gain", pointed out the professor. The XNUMXth Maio das PICS is held by the Center for Integrative and Complementary Health Practices of Bahiana (CEPICS), coordinated by Professor Renata Roseguini. As part of JOBA, the initiative provided services in Ayurvedic medicine, meditation, integrative Pilates, systemic therapy, aromatherapy workshops and Reiki.
