Public Note of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública on the Proposal to Update the DCNs for Medicine

Share

A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública expresses its deep concern about the text submitted for public consultation by National Council of Education for updating the National Curricular Guidelines (DCNs) of the Medicine course. The document presented represents a serious setback in Brazilian medical education, compromising the quality of training for future doctors and weakening the Unified Health System (SUS).

In view of this scenario, the Bahiana reaffirms its total support for the proposal for DCNs prepared by the Brazilian Association of Medical Education (ABEM). This document was created in a democratic manner, with broad participation from society, public and private medical schools, teachers, students, managers, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Education (MEC), the Ministry of Health and the Health Councils.

ABEM's text reflects a solid commitment to the quality of medical training in Brazil, ensuring significant advances both for medical education and for strengthening the SUS. For this reason, We do not support the proposal of the National Education Council and we defend the full adoption of the ABEM document as a basis for updating the DCNs.
