Bahia now has a Reference Center for Refractory Epilepsy

Bahia now has a Reference Center for Refractory Epilepsy (CRER), implemented by the Roberto Santos General Hospital, which was inaugurated on Wednesday, March 12. This is a pioneering space in the state's public network, to serve patients with more complex cases of the disease, and will be coordinated by the vice-rector and coordinator of the Epilepsy Outpatient Clinic at the hospital. The Bahiana is collaborating with the professional training of the CRER team, precisely because it has already been developing this work of assisting patients and training health professionals", declared Dr. Humberto de Castro Lima Filho.

Opened in March 2012, the Epilepsy Outpatient Clinic Bahiana is completing 13 years of activities. The service is intended to train health professionals to treat the disease, in addition to being a service space for people from various municipalities in the state. According to Dr. Humberto, Bahiana It is the only higher education institution in Bahia that dedicates a specific outpatient clinic to the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy.

Purple March is epilepsy awareness month, and March 26 is World Epilepsy Awareness Day, also known as Purple Day. The campaign aims to raise awareness and mobilize society about the rights of people with epilepsy, as well as combat prejudice and stigma in relation to the disease, promoting the social inclusion of people with epilepsy.
