Academics from the multi-professional and uni-professional residency programs at Bahiana participated, on February 21st and March 6th, in meetings in which institutional presentations of the Bahiana. Students from the Family and Community Medicine Residency Program participated in the meeting on February 21, when the final coursework of the graduating residents was presented. The meeting on March 6 brought together students from the Multidisciplinary Programs in Personal and Family Clinic and Elderly Health Care and the Unidisciplinary Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology.
"When I entered college, I learned about many theories about loss and grief. And this area has always interested me a lot, because the hospital area works with this field. Initially, I thought about doing a postgraduate degree in Hospital Psychology to work with this, but the opportunity to take the Enare (National Residency Exam) came up and I decided to take it and I passed. I chose Bahiana for being at the Irmã Dulce Hospital, for working with the health of the elderly. And I am very happy and fulfilled to be here, because Bahiana is a reference for postgraduate studies", declared resident psychologist Ana Carolina Mineiro Souza. The multi-professional residency classes include academics with degrees in Psychology, Physiotherapy and Nursing, and the uni-professional program includes graduates in Dentistry.
For nurse Jefferson Pereira Santos, who already works as a caregiver for the elderly, the residency program was a dream. "A residency program provides very in-depth knowledge. The student has a very deep immersion in the field. For me, it's a dream come true," said the resident. Pedagogical Supervisor of the Lato Sensu Postgraduate Program da Bahiana, Denise Dib, explains that the reception of new residents is prepared with great care and attention. "We understand that our approach must be very careful because the 60-hour workweek is already quite exhausting, in addition to the demands they have of being in charge of health services, taking care of people's health, often in emergency situations, in the ICU. That's why we make a point of welcoming them in a special way." Dib also explains that, throughout the course, residents have the support of NAPP, which deals with emotional issues as a group.
