The coordinator of the Master's and Doctorate Program in Medicine and Human Health at Bahiana, Ana Marice Ladeia, donated medicines to patients at the Transgender People's Outpatient Clinic on February 13th. The medicines were purchased with part of the proceeds raised at the launch of her book "I Was Born Odara", which took place in November of last year, at Bahiana. “In all my books, I seek to develop a social action. In this one, in addition to the income raised for our Transgender Outpatient Clinic, the approach to the topic itself is already a way of combating prejudice,” explained Ana Marice.
The Outpatient Clinic for trans people is made up of a multidisciplinary team formed by endocrinologist Márcia Sampaio, psychologist Carle Porcino, and nurse Jaddy Matheus, and also has the support of Social Services. The outpatient clinic is a place of welcome and respect, where trans people are monitored by the Unified Health System (SUS). The service works by appointment via WhatsApp (71) 98340-1978. Approximately 163 appointments have been carried out by the Outpatient Clinic in its two years of existence, and the medications will be used for hormonal treatment for people in social vulnerability who are already assisted by the outpatient clinic.
According to Ana Marice, "I Was Born Odara" is a work that confronts sexist ideas about the female body, presenting women's narratives based on intimate testimonies. The book highlights the journey of Odara, a trans woman who symbolizes a transformative power. Odara is the protagonist, while the author occupies the role of listening, learning and sensitively narrating her character's stories of struggle, overcoming and love. The book is available for purchase on the Amazon platform, both in physical and e-book versions. For those who want an autographed copy, it is possible to request it directly from the author, who ships free of charge throughout Brazil (contact her on Instagram: @anamariceladeia).
