Research group of Bahiana carries out activity at Roberto Santos Hospital for World Stroke Prevention Day

Actions were led by the Behavior and Neurofunctional Rehabilitation Research Group linked to the postgraduate course at Bahiana.

Raising awareness among the population about the symptoms and prevention of Stroke. This is the main objective of World Stroke Prevention Day, celebrated on October 29th. To mark the date, the Behavior and Neurofunctional Rehabilitation Research Group of the Bahiana, led by professor and researcher Elen Beatriz Pinto, has been carrying out a multidisciplinary and interinstitutional health education and prevention activity annually since 2016. This year, the action was carried out in partnership with the Regional Council of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy CREFITO 7, in addition to the partnerships already established with Hospital Roberto Santos (HGERS) and UNEB.

Last Tuesday (29/10), undergraduate scientific initiation students and postgraduate academics who are members of the research group, in addition to collaborators from HGERS and members of the Technical Chamber of Neurofunctional Physiotherapy of CREFITO 7, participated in an activity that occurred in two stages, the first being to raise awareness with the explanation of the care and symptoms of stroke and distribution of educational material in the waiting rooms of the HRS outpatient clinic and, the second, with patients from the stroke outpatient clinic of that health unit, with whom they carried out an awareness and awareness action for the prevention of falls, also with the distribution of informative material on this topic.

On Wednesday, the Behavior and Neurofunctional Rehabilitation Research Group of the Bahiana carried out another stroke prevention and education action with patients and employees at the outpatient clinic Bahiana Health. "Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability and death in adults worldwide and, therefore, it is a medical emergency that requires immediate recognition and treatment. Acting quickly can save lives and minimize brain damage," warns Dr. Elen Beatriz Pinto, highlighting the importance of the rehabilitation team's work in guiding patients and caregivers to facilitate functional performance in different activities and to prevent secondary complications, promoting the reintegration of these individuals into the community.
